Nosakhere Kamau (aka Eric L. Walton) hails from Elizabeth City, North Carolina. The artist, writer, entreprenuer and advocate's music is extracted from his southern roots and musical influences throughout the African Diaspora. He is currently CEO of Doors of Africa, LLC (www.doorsofafrica.com) and Co-Owner of Utamaduni Catering Company (www.utamadunicatering.com)headquartered in Atlanta, USA. He also serves as Chairman of Sankofa Investments, (PTY) LTD, headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa.Nosakhere is currently working on his 2nd project "The Bridge" following his freshman delivery entitled "From Within". From Within was a collection of 8 songs ranging from politics, socio-economic plight of Africans/Africans in America, male-female relationships, ancestral veneration and spirituality. His sophmore project "The Bridge" is an attempt to truly deal with the diverse rhythms and relative issues of the african continent and blend it with our contemporary frame of reference/experiences in the west (America). He explains this further;"Bridges are built as connectors to other sides of reality. They are literally constructed oft-times over waterways and sometimes over land mass. In a more artistic/figurative sense, its an area where a song/track gains the optimum momentum to carry it to the next level or dimension of creativity which in turn, connects you to the whole of the song experience."With this album, I desire to definitively engage in the sounds, rhythms and melodys that we as Africans in America brought over from mother Africa . Using various harmonies throughout the continent, blending it with the assimilated sounds that we as black folks have so creatively distinguished ourselves with here in the west. It is an attempt to preserve one of our most precious tools of culture from the motherland, "music" via creating the bridge to allow us to come back and forth, gain momentum and into another level of creativity to heal and assist in solving our issues."
In closing, Nosakhere turned to the words of Vieux Diop, (Artist/Senegal) whose prolific statement assisted him with shaping the formation of this album:"As we all know, Africans do love music very much; they do not discriminate against any music of any people from anywhere in the world. They will penetrate any music, with a supreme and spiritual attention, in order to better understand it and feel spiritually closer to the people, through that music. As Africans, we ask for the same musical treatment given to others; for understanding and respecting the differences in our cultures, will surely bring us closer-something that a political correctness of any kind will never achieve."
