Arizona's Americana Power Trio

About Me

“No, they aren't itinerant rail-riders stopping in town just long enough to steal a hot apple pie off a windowsill. This alt-country power trio just wanders all over the musical map, melding classic rock power with Hank Williams' twang and a perverse sense of humor.”
Michael Senft The Arizona Republic, Jan. 12, 2007

From Phoenix comes "AZ's Americana Power Trio", Instant Hobo. The band was founded in the summer of 2006 and has already made an impression as a unique and entertaining force in the Arizona music scene. The group brings a distinctive acoustic guitar driven approach to its country folk/rock hybrid music. Instant Hobo has a penchant for not only the traditional styled country of Hank Williams and Buck Owens, but a jazz and rock sensibility as well. Also of note are the quirky, insightful lyrics that expose the humor of the human condition, delivered with tight vocal harmonies. The name Instant Hobo derives from the group's desire to play and go in any direction without worrying about crossing traditional boundaries; essentially drifting like musical hobos! The core of the group is the tight guitar/bass/drum arrangement of the three members.
Acoustic guitarist/mandolin player/lead vocalist John Feula brings a singer/songwriter's perspective into the Instant Hobo power trio format. His technical but warm playing, strong vocals, and energetic stage performances combine with perceptive and personal songwriting and lyrics derived from years as a solo performer on the folk scene.
Bass player vocalist Steve Young provides his solid groove, vocal harmonies, and improvisational skills to Instant Hobo. Active in the Arizona rock, blues, and contemporary Christian music scenes for years, Young's playing, vocals, and stage persona pull the band together while allowing it to stretch out into new areas.
Drummer James Thorp is the newest member of Instant Hobo, taking over for original drummer Rikard Stjernquist. Coming to Arizona from California, James has performed with many groups on the L.A. club scene. James brings icredible range, dynamics, and possibilities to the bands sound.
