Tony Zawinul

Tony Zawinul is a creative indie filmmaker/Composer. with extensive experience on documentaries and music videos and live concert video Productions.Son of legendary keyboard player Joe Zawinul, Tony has had a life long exposure to artist's, thus providing a natural understanding, appreciation and access to the realm of arts.Starting as the drummer for popular L.A. Rock/Ska band, X-port, opening for groups such as the Untouchables, and Busboys.With a passion for film, Tony started scoring for theater and film and earned two awards; IFAA Award for best original music score for the film A view from Afar, (Bengo Prod. USA) and the Santa Monica Theater Guild Award for best Score for a stage production, Cyrano De Bergerac.As an Athlete, in 1980 Tony was a California State Long Jump Champion and was invited to compete in the 1980 US Olympic trails. (No Thanks to Jimmy Carter) and received an athletic scholarship to San Jose State University.As an Artist Tony's professional highlights include his latest work as Director/Producer for the grammy award Jazz/Fusion group The Yellowjackets on their latest DVD release "25". The combination CD/DVD package captures the groups electrifying live performance during their 2005 Europeaun fall tour.Tony has also Directed and Produced the Documentary, Two Years with the Zawinul Syndicate, Featuring Joe Zawinul and his band, which was presented at the Kind of Blue Jazz Film Festival in Milan Italy, and at the Miami Jazz Film Festival.In addition Tony has film numerous artist such Mike Stern, Marcus Miller, Perter Erskine, Alex Acuna, to name a few as well as music video productions for Karim Ziad, Etienne Mbappe, Airto Moreira and Eugenio Finardi, and continues to develop and produce various programs.
