About Me

I would rather be at trio rehearsal... even in the fake new time that renders it actually at 8am... 'cause I like my trio. I do, I do!

My Interests

Lately, I've been trying not to get stressed out. I find it relaxing. Of course, it doesn't last, but it seems like a step in the right direction. I also like music. Lots of it. And books. And furry pet friends. And watering my plants. Also, the sleep. Yes, like that.

I'd like to meet:

People like the guy that tipped his hat to me the other day when I was walking the dogs. That was neat. And I like musicians, and artists, and people who like musicians and artists, and people who like music and art. And nice people. And funny people. And smart people.

Music:

When I'm not deeply embroiled in stuff I -need- to listen to, like Dallapiccola and Brahms (which I honestly really love, mmm-hmmm...) I love to listen to collections of unaccomplanied 20th Century cello music (yah!) and really rich orchestra stuff (Verdi Requiem of late). But when I put on Radiohead, I get that really deep gut feeling, like it's alll hard and sad and okay anyway.

Movies:

The sad thing is, the last time I tried to watch a movie, I got all annoyed and frustrated that it was taking so long, and I walked out of the room. This is kinda intolerant, I'll admit, but it's just such a long time to sit still and focus on something about which you can do nothing... I hope this is a temporary phase. I would love to love a movie again. *sigh*

Television:

TV is just one big guy saying "MwuhuhmuhMwuhmuhuh"!

Books:

I love being able to read obsessively as well as compulsively. I have read more Augusten Buroughs (love him), some bad fiction, some good fiction, some historical fiction, and some non-fiction. Right now I want to read some Dostoeyvsky, some music criticism, some music pedagogy, and some more good ficiton. I kinda like to read!

Heroes:

Easy: Grandma. She just turned 99 (when I wrote this the first time, she had just turned 98!). She lives alone. She's smart, sharp, and strong. She's older than psychology, Stravinsky ballets, jazz, New Mexico, and LOTS of other stuff. And she's the neatest person I know. (Today would have been my grandma's hundredth birthday. She passed away in June. I miss her. And she's still totally my hero.)

Recital!

So it's really going to happen... I've been in a cloud of ... what, fear, denial, detachment... but I know now, somehow today, that I really will actually do it!Sunday, April 9th, 8pm, Keller Hall...I...

Sad, tired, beat...

So it was one of those days. Felt like an alien, one frankly incapable of meeting any expectations or performing any human social functions. And tired, on top of that. Seriously, this school thing -...
