This week I am paying respect to my top five favorite girl movies (in no particular order).Muriel can be described as a dull, boring girl who locks herself away in her bedroom listening to Abba repeatedly through her headphones. That is until her life is turned upside down by her tragic, wacky friend Rhonda. Silly antics ensue when Muriel and Rhonda team up like no other onscreen friendship. After viewing this bittersweet movie, you may never listen to Dancing Girl the same way again.Sabrina suffers from an affliction of most young girls, an unrequited love. As Sabrina pines away for the fun-loving playboy of the wealthy family her father works for, she travels to Paris and returns metamorphosed from young girl to young lady. Her love interest, David, takes notice of Sabrina’s Parisian influence and starts to woo her. The problem, David is engaged to be married to another woman. Big brother Linus steps in to charm sweet Sabrina away from David and both soon realize that the love affair should be between themselves and not Sabrina and David.The final movie in the brilliant Three Colors Trilogy, Red offers a movie of fraternity, forgiveness and compassion. To sum this movie up is a challenge. Our heroine, Valentine, meets by chance, an old judge whose hobby is listening to his neighbors’ phone conversations. Valentine is drawn to the old judge and forms an unconventional friendship. We also get to know Valentine’s neighbor from across the street whose life parallels that of the judge’s, just 20 years later. In a strange twist of fate, Valentine is united with her neighbor and Kieslowski ties up the trilogy in a tragically beautiful way.Darling. Ms. Holly Golightly is the pinnacle of all things feminine. Holly quickly fascinates and amuses her new downstairs neighbor however he soon learns the strong and independent party girl has a soft and demure side to her. This is a movie that should delight and enjoy a girl of any age. It is also where Jets to Brazil got the name for their band from a travel poster on Holly’s living room wall.What would you do if you found out the ex-love of your life had you erased from your memory? Erase them back of course. In the course of erasing them you realize that they are still the love your life and try to hang on and hide from the fading memories. Clementine’s free spirit and crazy ways complimented Joel’s conservative and meek manners. Opposites do attract, but they eventually have to go their separate ways too. A tough lesson almost every girl has to learn. What started off as a bang of a relationship soon fizzles into accusations and resentment, ultimately leading to demise. You get them erased then met them again on some random encounter and fall for them all over again. Are you doomed to repeat the same mistakes or make a concerted effort to get over the bullshit and just enjoy each other’s company?
