till the next show, ride on

About Me

Covalence started out at UMass Amherst back in 2004, playing music in dorm basements and rocking out at keg parties for the sake of having a good time (and of course getting free beer.) Despite pissing off a few authority figures, the band came up with an original rock sound: rock guitars fueled by some heavy drums and bass. The style comes from all different areas, ranging from classic rock to grunge to hardcore and metal to funk and jazz. The original four members were Mike Sticco and Dillon Ryan on guitars, Luke Batten on drums and Andrew Simpson on bass. The name Covalence came about because of the tight musical connection they shared, a covalent bond being when two or more atoms share electrons. That said the original line up eventually changed, leaving behind Luke and Andrew. Then Patrick Hurley, a former guitarist of the band Zamza joined the band and the music moved in a more technical and heavier direction. Covalence's sound continued to evolve and progressed into a less traditional rock direction, adopting a grungish-metal-funk-garage sound. Covalence is well known on the bar scene in Amherst and have rocked the stages of The Eleven's, Pearl Street and The Iron Horse in Northampton. Recently the band has uprooted and moved towards the Boston area where they plan to spread their music upon a larger audience of listeners.
