As an adolescent, the streets offered the same cushion of acceptance, inspiration and lure that it dangles in front of young men all across America. "I'm the oldest of five kids," confessed Papa. "So as I got older I would start hanging out with my older cousins and uncles. I would watch everything they did and want to emulate that, from the way they dress to the way they got money but they would give me money so I would never have to do what they did."But that atmosphere also provided the foundation to Papa the rapper. "I got into rap from watchin' videos 24/7 and wanting to be like them," he remembers. "Listening to DJ Quick and E-40 and the shit they were talking about was what my uncles and cousins were actually doing. When I got to high school I would dib and dabble with rap. But I was actually a better rapper than people I thought were good. Even in 5th grade people would say, 'man, you can rap.' but I'd be like 'yea right.' But Jesse made me believe I can do this and he's a bigger influence on me with his rap shit then my favorite rapper is. Just the way that he do him no matter what showed me the power and it just clicked wit me;"Coming from the Midwest you're influenced by everything because you're in the middle. His early influences were DJ Quick, E-40, and snoop but later the Jay Z's. Lil Wayne's and his friend Jesse would help mold his flow. "I'm here to cater to the hood and the clubs. That's just the type of person I am. I'm always in the hood or the club that's most likely where you can find me. Everything I rap about is shit I been through, around, or seen first hand. Yea I did the drug thing for a quick second but it wasn't me. I was put on this earth to be a star. I had to stay focused and that was slowing me down. What the world will get out of me is a person with that swagger like Jigga that braggadocious flow like Weezy and a person who rides the beat with a smooth flow like best friend Jess J."
