About Me

I'm a manufacturing engineer professionally. I also build pretty much anything- wood, plastic, metal... anything from a house to furniture to sculpture, I'll try my hand at it.Although I'm currently not working since I am waiting for a liver transplant (anyone have a spare I can have? Or even a lobe?), I still keep myself busy doing stuff around the house. I've also been feeling quite good since last summer, and I've been looking for a job since August. (ok, so you don't have a spare liver. How about a manufacturing engineering position?) I'm very appreciative of my best friend, lover, and wife Jennifer who is the sole reason I still have a life I enjoy and my sanity (albeit that part is sometimes debatable) which I normally enjoy.

My Interests

Woodwork, metalwork, art, music, and politics. I also love the outdoors, especially either the beach or long backpacking trips into the mountains.

I'd like to meet:

Great inventors, thinkers, and creators- Da Vinci, Edison, Newton, Martin Luther King, Socrates, Galileo, etc. Well, assuming I first figured out how to make a universal translator so I could understand them.

Music:

Pretty much any- rock, Broadway, metal, soft rock, classical, jazz, island, country, alt country. Pretty much any that isn't hard rap; I like melody and harmony to go with my rhythm.

Movies:

Anything which isn't too artsy or drama-ish. If I want pure drama, I'll live my life. If I watch a movie, I want to escape that.

Television:

Battlestar Galactica, Numbers, American Chopper, Dirty Jobs, Good Eats, the Daily Show, the Tonight Show, My Name is Earl.

Books:

Pretty much any by Tom Clancy, Larry Niven, Bruce Campbell, John Scalzi, Tolkein, J.K. Rowling, Christopher Paolini, or Orson Scott Card- though I'll read pretty much anything, enjoying most of it. I also read Make, Popular Mechanics, Seed, and Playboy magazines (yes, I actually do read the articles)

Heroes:

Anyone who follows the road they have chosen for themselves rather than merely following the road they wind up on by putting one step in front of another- whether it be someone who strives for a goal, or someone who gives up that goal for a more immediate need.

A Decade of Change

Today, I went and did a bit of lap swimming.  I only made 1200 yards, and I was slower than molasses in January, but I did it.  While swimming, I thought about the difference between now and...

Whoo hoo! Feeling healthy!

Four years since I've worked.  Four and a half since going on the transplant list.  Five since feeling good.  A bit over a month since starting a new medication.  And now...
