i don't even think your band is even grindcore

About Me

The wall of sound: a metaphor that appears to have run its course. Just as it seems that its significance is lost in an era of overwhelmingly loud and aggressive music, El Terran revitalizes the tired phrase and imbues it with powerful new meaning. Drawing on the violent and epic aural roadblocks of bands like Envy and Sigur Ros, El Terran erects an edifice of staggering melodic force, accosting the listener not only the with the sheer volume and density of its sound, but also with its devastating harmony and interplay. But where other bands would be overwhelmed by this sonic product and leave it as instrumental music or smatter it with unintrusive screams, El Terran fearlessly navigates new territory. Jazz vocalist Katie Perman layers her lush, coruscant voice inside and over the crushing wall of sound, lending it a coherence and pop sensibility as of yet unexplored. El Terran represents an exceptional amalgam of Edmonton talent, pooled from active and area acts such as Run With the Hunted, snic, Hundred Acre Wood, The Line Atlantic, Veil Maker, the.stars.wept., Compromise, The Preshure Point, and Encompase. Their debut self-released 7-inch will arrive in the fall of 2006.

Sounds Like: Being hit by a train whose only warning of imminent death was the sweet call of a voice... Like Envy fronted by Chantal Kreviazuk... Like Sigur Ros turned grindcore... Like Pig Destroyer if they released an album of ambient electronic cover-songs... Like a dance-able Don Caballero... Like your own family pet that barks Mogwai songs when someone rings the doorbell... Like what The Killers will sound like in 5 years... Like Creed if they replaced Christianity with Aum Shinrikyo... Like the evangelical church bands of 2nd ave parallel in Quetzaltenango, but, well, ok, not as loud as them...
