My main love is musical theatre! There's nothing like sitting in a live performance and being completely moved by the dynamics on stage. Some of my favorite musicals are: Assassins, 1776, Side Show, Baby, Avenue Q, Parade, 13, and Thoroughly Modern Millie (which I have seen WAAAAY too many times on Broadway...) ;P
On a similar note, I enjoy creating and maintaining websites for a few very sweet and extremely talented friends in the theatre business in LA. Some of my sites include:
Kevin Earley - of Broadway's "Thoroughly Modern Millie"
Julie Ann Emery - of the movie "Hitch" and the ABC TV series "Commander in Chief"
Julie Dixon Jackson
Misty Cotton
Bets Malone
I also run a VERY small, unofficial fan site for an extremely talented performer:
Russell Harvard
With my business Actual Reality Designs, I've also created and currently run the sites for:
Chess 2007 Benefit Concert
Anthony Natale
Valley Musical Theatre
Kara Shaw
Lisa LeMay
Finally, I enjoy photography - which I actually have a Bachelor's degree in. :) Sometimes just taking my camera and driving (no place in particular) and photographing random things is the most relaxing thing I could do. :)
I can't wait for this film to be released!
Seriously, only ONE PART of this video needs to be watched: FF and watch from 2:58 to 3:06. Take a look and see who I'm talking about! :)
Kevin Earley... Oh, wait a minute,... I already did that! ;)
The Marvelous Wonderettes... oh wait a minute, I did that too! :) If you live in the LA area - GO SEE THIS SHOW!!! Not only is it wonderful, but it stars some of my favorite people in LA theatre!!!
There's just something incredibly attractive about Callum Keith Rennie... So -- even 10 years after due South I still think he's one of the hottest actors around... Can't explain what makes him so attractive - you have to see it for yourself. :) Especially that incredible smile of his that he flashes at 1:54 (see photo below) - Big *SIGH*!!! :)
This picture just renders me speechless... :)
Aside from that - I'd love to meet nice, genuine people who care about others, have a good sense of humor, and who love animals. People who are open-minded enough to respect the views of others (even if they don't agree), yet stand firmly for what they believe in rank VERY high in my book. Finally, if you are addicted to superb theatre, that certainly doesn't hurt either. ;)
As far as musical theatre goes, some of my favorite cast recordings include: Assassins, Baby, 1776, Side Show, The Last 5 Years, Avenue Q, A New Brain, Parade, City of Angels, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Best voices on Broadway? Kevin Earley , Norm Lewis, Will Chase, Alan Campbell, and Christopher Sieber! :)
My favorite people in LA theatre: Nick DeGruccio, Julie Dixon Jackson, Kevin Earley, and Misty Cotton!!
Not really too much of a fan of movies, but I have to admit that I tend to love small independent films that no one has ever heard of...
Mostly I adore well made, beautiful, touching movies... My favorite is a little film that no one's probably heard of - the 1996 movie "It's My Party," which starred Eric Roberts and Gregory Harrison. It's a beautiful movie about love, family, and friends -- and the choice everyone has to live and die with dignity... It's about appreciating the people you hold dear in your life and letting them know, before it's too late. It was such an incredibly moving film... I just LOVED it!! It makes me cry just thinking about it.
Another film that deeply affected me was the lovely independent film "Lightning Bug." Beautiful and touching, humorous and heartbreaking, it was a film with SO MUCH heart that it's stayed with me long after seeing it...
Aside from that I really enjoyed the Canadian film, "Double Happiness" - not only did it focus on second generation Asians living in a Western culture (in this case Canada, but it could've easily been about the plight of Asian Americans), but it starred Callum Keith Rennie - who is as amazingly talented as he is attractive... Don't know who he is? Just look at the sweet clip below and judge for yourself! :) *SIGH*
Can I be Sandra Oh for just 2 minutes... Please? Preferrably THESE two minutes. ;) Callum Keith Rennie is just SOOOO... *SIGH*
Other than that, I loved "Rent" - but that's pretty expected, given my love for theatre.
I really don't watch too much TV at all, in fact the only two shows I really love are Six Feet Under and due South.
I love Six Feet Under and think it's probably one of the best shows that ever aired on TV... I adore the relationship between David and Keith - in fact, they're my main reasons for watching. Michael C. Hall and Mathew St. Patrick are amazing!!
I was also re-introduced to due South - which I've recently grown a new fondness for. :) Though it was filmed in the late 1990's and aired about 10 years ago, it's still surprisingly well written and heartfelt.
LOVE the blooper reel below!!
Besides, who could resist these two?? :)
I also became addicted to Queer As Folk last year - and although it's a bit explicit, if you can get past the shock value of that, the characters, the writing, and especially the acting are, at times, very beautiful...
The gorgeous video below shows why I love the show -- and it combines my love of RENT and QaF - what could be better? ;)
The GREAT scene from the show below shows the moment that I knew this series was something special... As an important side note, Hal Sparks is SUCH an AMAZING actor!
I still love "Line of Fire" although it was cancelled eons ago. :( It was the last show I felt was innovative and really pushed the envelope of TV viewing - since watching and loving QaF, it's been hard for me to get into watching network TV because it all seems a little whitewashed and censored... "Line of Fire" seemed to be the last show that wasn't trying to be PC all the time - plus Julie was excellent in the show.
Julie as Jennifer Sampson in "Line of Fire."
My Dad, he passed away when I was 21 - but I owe my love for politics and musical theatre to him! My Mom, of course - who has been mother, provider, supporter, and most of all, best friend to me growing up.
