WHO ARE HOODSTARS? - HOODSTARS PRESS RELEASE –
Hoodstars are an over talented collective based in London, UK. The team consists of K!nG, WereWolf, !ceKid, Nightmare, 12, YoungDot and Touch. The last time a group of this dexterity were in the public scope bad publicity made them go under, but If Nas thinks Hip Hop is dead then Grime must be alive and kicking.
Not content with a foothold in the music industry the group have launched a range of clothing to promote their way of life, epitomised by the phrase, “Too Hood To Care Star. This is also set to be a major brand, which has developed rapidly in the last few months and is set to grow as the name and fame of the group expands.
NIGHTMARE AKA NITRO
Nightmare is a 16-year-old artist from west London, namely The Edward Woods Estate that straddles Shepherds bush and Ladbroke grove. Nightmare has already been on DVD productions such as “London Underground” and the forthcoming HOG DVD, as well as this he has become part of the elite team in HoodStars.
Nightmare is due to be releasing a mixtape and promo titled “Sleepless Nights” and “Night-RO Bars” respectively. These will feature music that Nightmare terms as “potent grime music”. Nightmare always sets out to achieve all aims and objectives.
KING
Formally known as King Craze, now the co founder of the Hoodstars, King has been in the music scene since childhood. With a mixed parentage of Grenadian and Dominican backgrounds a rich tapestry of talent has been grown during the 8 years he has been emceeing.
As a result of the ability King was part of the now defunct SLK movement (now Gully Gang), and featured on Spit TV with the group. As an artist he has already broken the UK garage charts with Ny on a track titled “Haters” which reached 7th place in the RWD charts. Prior to this he was the C.E.O of a group known as X-Rated.
Stay tuned for releases such as “Work like a slave, Eat like a King” and the promo titled “Crown me da King”.
ICEKID
At the age of 16, IceKid has broken barriers others have yet to hurdle. Half Jamaican, half Irish, IceKid stays true to his cultures. Best known for his Channel U hit “my youth” on which he profiles with Stylo G and Sickman. IceKid's older sibling is Cherise from Big Brovaz a well-known and respected group recently on the Eurovision contest. The connection between Cherise and the Channel U banger was in the form of J- Rock also a member of Big Brovaz, who introduced Stylo and Sickman to Ice and the rest is history. After emceeing since the age of 11, it seems that the time is ripe no more than when he was singled out by Wiley as a walking time bomb. IceKid reps every ends and is the younger with the most potential in the scene.
WEREWOLF
Wolfs career started when he formed a group known as Cold Hearted, now aged 20; he is now the other C.E.O of Hoodstars. The Wolf is originally from the grime scene but has diversified and moved on to different tempos not just as an emcee but also as a producer and also a sound engineer.
The sounds of Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross as well as Highlife were always on rotation on the family sound system while Wolf was young so these gave the soulful influence that comes from his deep heartfelt lyrics. Wolf has visited and been on rotation on Freeze, Laylow, Frontline, Avenues and also the Internet station known as Manic FM.
The Wolf is from a half African and half St Lucian background and is under the mark of Sagittarius in the horoscope. Look out for old releases such as “Intense Flow” and “You will go blind if you look in my head”. If you cant find these on the roads (or peer to peer) then hold on for “You will go blind if you look in my head volume II” and other instrumental mix cds.

DOT ROTTEN FORMALLY KNOWN AS YOUNG DOT
One hundred percent Jamaican, this is the Doctor Dre of South London, hailing from SW9 area and parring in Stockwell and Brixton. The newest member of HoodStars is a songwriter, musician, emcee, producer, and sound engineer. His passion is to join the team to release records, go on tours and create music videos and in the process create a chapter in history. Young Dot has released a Mixtape and three instrumental E.Ps, and titled the forthcoming Hoodstars Album as “Too Hood to Care Star”. As well as a newly released mix cd available on his myspace featuring tracks from the last 12 months.
12 - TWELVE
12 is not your typical artist, more like an all rounder. 12 started singing at the age of seven but moved on to the mic as an emcee at the age of 11. He always puts his heart in his music. Born in the heart of west London, in Ladbroke grove on the 22nd of July, to parents of Iranian and Ghanaian heritage made 12 a unique person from the offset.
DJ SPOOK J. Spook J is a 19 year old Grime, Old Skool DJ and Producer from Northolt, West London. He has become part of the Hoodstars Unit from an indirect route. Spook started Dj ing around 4 to 5 years ago with about 10 friends from school and at the same time started shopping in D’Vinyl and Uptown Records. His career in production started with bootlegs on fruity loops. As his talent improved his tools changed and he started making his own beats and using different programs such as Reason and Cubase At the same time his name started to be known and he became part of the pirate radio scene. Spook had a regular slot on Freeze FM doing graveyard shifts with Foz Tee and then another daytime slot with Striking Force, who at the time were very closely related to TCO. As well as a regular slot on Freeze, Spook also played on Laylow FM with Striking Force. He then was brought into hood stars as the main DJ in mid 2006.
Versa Beats
The newest official member of the group is Versa, also know as “The middle Eastern born producer”, “The VERSAtile one” or just Versa. It may sound cliché but Versa’s career started out on the Ejay platform on the Sony Playstation and the MTV beat generator. As most producers do, he progressed to a high platform, eventually taking on fruity loops and reason as weapons of choice. Not content with finding this knack for making amazing “riddims”, Versa took an educational path and completed A Btec qualification then went onto study at London Metropolitan in the field of Film production. An untitled solo project is in the wings along with contributions to the Hoodstars Album due for release early next year. DJ JAWZY
The newest member of the group, another DJ of immense skill and repotioire mixing across the genres from bashment to drum and bass to house. Jawsy hails from south of the river, Southwood, SW19 to be exact and has joined Hoodstars on the reccomendation of Dot. Only 20 years of age, Other Djs fallback and beware all that can save you is your purchased dubplates.
STAR9 aka STAR NINE
Hoodstars Have opened up a graphic design department with the help of the over talented Star9 the Part-Time Freelance Graphic and Web Designer. At 16 his performance superseeds his age. The current portfolio mainly consists of Grime and UK hip hop artists but this is not the only scope he wished to work in. Star Nine is going to expand in other directions, so If You’re From outside The scene or from a corporate environment then please get in contact. although he is in school and In Year 11, but DONT think he wont be able to meet your deadlines. Jobs are charged on a job by job basis and there is no specific rate card. apart from Big artists Star does not work on a free basis, but If You want anything Design-wise by Star Nine, don’t hesitate to add or send a message.Don’t Accept Shoddy Work From all of These Boring other Designers!
