About Me

My name is Kevin and like music, hockey (go Blackhawks), politics, drinking beer/wine, and bitching a lot.I enjoy most forms of music with thrash metal and punk rock being my favorite even though I'm in my 30s (an old fogey by metal and punk standards). I am also politically active and definately stray to the left, mainly because of the religious quackery of the Conservative party.I believe in a world of peace, empathy, and compassion. Policy that deviates from that should be rejected entirely.Other than my apathetic world view, I bring peace to my life and joy to it by playing the drums, guitar, listening to music, writing songs, watching my kids play hockey, skating myself, raising my kids, working on my Masters degree, and trying to do my part to make my small part of the world a better place for every living thing in it.The other really groovy thing (that’s for you 60s kids), I am also currently enlisted as drummer for the Northern Virginia punk band, GSFU. I joined up with them in October of 2007 and we’ve been practicing since, looking to do live gigs as well as some studio work. For more information on the happenings of the band, see their myspace page from my friends list.

Music:

Just signed up so I can keep up with some cool bands. I'm a bit older, but love punk rock and heavy metal, mainly punk rock and underground thrash of the 1980s.I am married with children.Bands I dig: Bad Religion is my favorite band always and forever...Other great punk bands that I draw an influence from are The Clash (of course), Rise Against, Anti-Flag, Pennywise, Bouncing Souls, Lifetime, Dropkick Murphys, Propagandhi, Social Distortion, Strike Anywhere, Millencollin, the Jam, Richard Hell, Face to Face (weep for lost glory), NoFX, Agent Orange, Adolescents, the Ramones, 7 Seconds, Black Flag, Billy Talent, Green Day, Living End, X, etc., etc...Also love metal...mainly old school thrash like early Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, and the incomparable Alex Skolnick and Testament, Celtic Frost, Possessed, Voi Vod, Mortal Sin, Destruction, Kreator, Suicidal, Megadeth, Nuclear Assault, Anthrax, Overkill, Sacrifice, Death, etc., etc.Enjoy jazz as well...Pat Metheny and Al DiMeola... Other music I like include REM, the Cure, Cream, the Smiths, Steve Earle, Chris Knight, Soul Asylum, Live, Tonic, Tiger Army, Chris LeDoux, Buffalo Springfield, Jimi Hendrix, the immortal Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, the Byrds, Gallactic Cowboys, CSN+Y, the Beatles, System of a Down, Cars, CCR, the Animals, Merle Haggard, George Strait, Lou Rawls, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Parliament Funkadelic, Janis Joplin, and the list goes on.My personal musical influences include: As a drummer…there are some I consider (Lars Ulrich PRE-1992), Derek Grant (Alkaline Trio), Dave Lombardo (Slayer’s original drummer), Ginger Baker (Cream) and the current Bad Religion drummer Brooks Wackerman (he’s da man). I also have to say I do like Sum41’s drummer Steve-O. If I played guitar as well as I’d like the ax slingers I LOVE include Testament’s original lead player Alex Skolnik and Carlos Santana. For my money those are the two I like to hear the best. Punk guitar players? Hmmm…I love Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Bad Religion) and Fletcher of Pennywise. They would probably be my two favorites. My favorite singers? Easy…Greg of Bad Religion and Jello of Dead Kennedys. Bass players? Jay of Bad Religion and RIP Jason of Pennywise. You are still missed.
