About Me

LISTEN TO SOME OF MY CURRENT RELEASES USING THIS BEATPORT PLAYERTim Richards Curfew, Blockhead, Defected, Om, Black Vinyl, Add2Basket, Grooved, Queep Tim music is as wide as the people that have been playing his tunes from Sasha to Simon Dunmore(Defected), King Unique(Curfew) to Tony Humphries(New York), Nic Fanciulli(Saved) to Stacy Kidd(Chicago), Magik Johnson(NRK) to Pete Tong (Radio 1) and with releases on international labels Blockhead, Curfew, Grooved, Queep & Black Vinyl and remixes on Om, Queep and Defected he is definitely one to watch conqueur New Zealand and then the world. Interview by Karn Hall for Infusion Magazine Q - What inspired you to pursue a) djing b) production and how long have you been at each? a, Like most people I was going to gigs and was bitten by the music bug, I really wanted to get stuck in and involved in the industry. b, Production was the next logical step as I've been DJing for 10 years. After producing for 5 years now I'm achieving my goals of becoming an Internationally recognised Producer. Q - How has djing changed in your opinion/view over the years you have been in the game, scene wise and technology wise? I think the biggest change is the steady move away from vinyl, its sad because i will always really enjoy collecting and playing records. But the digital options just have so much going for them! Q - Describe the genre/s you play/produce and why those sounds? My sound is quite broad if you had to label my sound I think......house, tech house. I like to think that I just play well produced dance music! Q - What is your fave piece of technology music related or other and why? Has to be the software I use to write my music, Logic and Pro Tools. Without programs like these my producing would be so much harder. Q - If your studio was on fire, what item would you save and why?? Easy my computer. Everything is so software based now that my computer really is the heart of my studio and allot of what's on it can not be replaced (ideas etc). Which reminds me... BACK UP !!!!!!! Q - Is there a stand out, memorable experience in your djing career that you can recall? As cheesy as it sounds anytime I see people enjoying something I created or if someone comes up to me and tells me they like one of my own tunes it really is the best feeling in the world! Q - Which achievement with respect to your production talent are you most proud of?? Having a tune remixed by King Unique and also knowing that people overseas like Sasha, Pete Tong, Steve Lawler,Tony Humphries, Stacy Kidd & Simon Dunmore etc have been playing my music are two things i am definitely very proud of! Q - If you where an animal what would you be and why? Gotta be a Panda. I'm a pretty chilled out character, simple things keep me happy and the thought of sitting back munching on bamboo with my mates for the rest life sounds pretty sweet. Q - Which labels has your work been signed too and when will we see you remixing the likes of Madonna? I have original tunes released on Curfew(UK) , Black Vinyl(UK) ,Blockhead(US), Grooved(RSA) , Queep (IRE) I have done remixes for Om(US) & Queep. My remix for Om was picked up by Defected for UK release Remixing Madonna well you never know what the future holds! If you told me last year that I would have would have nine tune's released in 2006 I would have asked for some of whatever you were smoking! Q - Have you ever been convicted of anything? Nope, I really am as boring as everyone says I am! Q - If you could time travel, where would you go, what era would you visit and what if anything, would you change? The one point in time that I wish I could have been there was in Dallas for Game 6 of this years NBA finals so I could have seen the Miami Heat win there first ever NBA championship! Q - Where are your fave places to play? My fave places to play, 55 (New Plymouth), Coherent & Ink, Carpark, Bath St(Dunedin), Base (Christchurch) Playing at 'The Family' in Brisbane would have to be the most insane experience too! O AND OF COURSE TURNMILLS WITH KING UNIQUE AND FUNK D'VOID I think that so often the quality of a night is determined by the people that are there! Q - Signature Sounds is your own successful party brand, how has it developed since inception and what plans do you have for the brand in future?? The party has grown bigger than i ever thought is could with gigs in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and New Plymouth In the future....I would like a record label under the same name. Q - If you had 1 wish, what would it be and why?? (excluding the 100 more wishes option ;-) To live a long and happy life with friends and loved ones! I know its total cheese but in the end its all that really matters. Another one would be to never lose my hearing! The thought of a silent world is very scary! Q - Your dream a) label to be signed too, The release on Curfew & to have a remix by King Unique is a dream come true but i still have allot more i want to do/achive b) track to remix ? Massive Attack "Teardrop" Q - Who would you jump in front of a bullet for?? Any of my friends/loved ones. Its so easy to say that i guess you never really know until your in that situation!
