About Me

At the young age of twenty-five, LaShanda Callahan has already accomplished a lot. Not only is she an author, but she is also a playwright, dancer, and instructor. In July 2006 she put on her first play, Let No Man Put Asunder... Not Even You!!! The play was a local hit, which spawned a recording of the play to be released on DVD.LaShanda's second success came in January 2007 with the release of her first book, The Deacon's Daughter Club: #1 My Genesis. It is esteemed highly for realistically shedding light on such issues as promiscuity, pornography addiction, homosexuality, and teen pregnancy, just to name a few. Her sophmore release, The Deacon's Daughter Club: #2 All On My Own was released November 2007. The Deacon's Daughter Club: #3 The Very Next Step will be released March 31, 2008.Most recently LaShanda was featured on the Cruisin' For Christ 2007 cruise, hosted by national best-selling author Kendra-Norman Bellamy. On the cruise LaShanda was featured along with Evangelist Ty Adams, gospel singers Deitrick Haddon, LaShell Griffin, Melvin Williams, Darelne McKoy, and many other well-known artist. In her free time she enjoys reading and spending time with her family. Each of the members of the Deacon's Daughter Club have issues that conflict with the Christian principles that have been instilled in them since they were young. Freshly scarred from a bad break up with her first love, Anaya is determined to leave behind the rules and regulations of her formerly dependent life with her father, Deacon Patterson. But college life proves to be more than she bargained for when she faces physical abuse from her new beau. Is he the one she's been searching to give her virginity to? Karen, on the other hand, is determined to stand strong in her faith and belief in God. After practicing celibacy for over two years, she feels that nothing could cause her to return to the wild parties and promiscuity that she used to be a part of. But when the father of her miscarried child returns, will the strength she thought she had melt away with hopes of being in love again? Kamilah, the last member of the group, is nervous about moving away from her family. The oldest of eight children, she has spent the majority of her life burping babies, changing diapers, and doing laundry. Successfully hiding her secret addictions to pornography, erotic novels, and junk food, she leaves for college afraid of what the future holds for her. Will she find solace in her new roommate, a young woman determined to live her life free from sexual inhibitions, or will she hold fast to what she has been taught by her parents? Now that they are leaving for Daytown University, will these three live the lives their parents want them to, or will their preoccupation with their own agendas lead them down unexpected paths?

Writing, dance, writing, dance, writing, dance, and theatre...

I'd like to meet:

Interesting people who share the same love for the Lord that I do, people who have dreams and goals and ain't afraid to go after them! Life is too precious to only dream, go make your dreams come true!!!

Music:

I mostly listen to gospel music and R&B, but dabble in a little of pop. I have great respect for good music and give great artist the respect they deserve (they're hard to come by these days...)

Movies:

The Color Purple, The Temptations, Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Love Jones... (And anything else with Lorenz Tate!) Sorry baby.... Oh yeah, I look up to Tyler Perry, so you know I love all of his movies.

Television:

Books:

MINE!!!! Yea!!!! GOD IS ABLE TO DO EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY ABOVE ALL WE COULD EVER ASK OR THINK!!! The bible, of course. (Nothing can replace the word of God!) Joyce Meyer, Michelle McKinney Hammond, and Christian fiction...

Heroes:

Jesus, because He did what God asked him to, despite how hard it was. He's my EXAMPLE because this holy life ain't always easy. But I know I can do all things through Him, because He is the supplier of my strength. Also my Daddy, because he always took good care of me and my sister. My Mommy, because she's my mommy and God blessed me abundantly when He gave me her. And my Granny, because she is and always has been the bomb. Sweet and loving, I wanna be like her when I grow up.
