Cwmbran boys Fletchers Raygun come forth with a funk infused slice of UK indie that oscillates between being anthemic and speed fuelled mania. Formed from the ashes of countless former bands the full line-up came together in October of last year. Their overall sound is one a heady mix of rock and punk designed to pulsate when playing live.
New track ‘Need to Know Me’ kicks off with a swirl of spiky guitars before a rhythm setting drumbeat settles in. The vocal from Rhodri Birchley is nice and strong as he confidently bellows “You Don’t need to Know Me†from the depth of his innards. The track also features a nice funk feeling, driven by the drumbeat, which should allow for the more rhythmically inclined the chance to move those body parts they deem necessary. The chorus comes on like a classic audience driven anthem designed for all to shout along to without any real need to know any of the other lyrics.
This early offering from Fletchers Raygun is a nicely crafted slice of punk infused rock that gives the feeling the band will show great vitality at any live date. The boys have a very long way to go but show superb promise with a very impressive level of energy. The next twelve months could be huge for the band as they have to get out on the road again and look to release new material either on EP or a full album. The brief glimpse this track allows bodes very well and they are undoubtedly one act to keep an eye on in the future.
