I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Layout made by AvengerXVII am ambitious, a global thinker, and an aspiring academic, rarely ever seen without a pen in my hand! I have a compulsive need to understand things and to feel in control of the way my world works, two things which have led me to begin studying for my PhD in the area of international child rights. My dreams have big shoes to fill before they become reality, but without dreams, life is empty. So I will never stop chasing them! With regard to fellow humans, I have been described, among other things, as complicated, high-maintenance, aloof and (my personal favourite) 'odd'! People freak me out. So yes, I can be tough to get to know, and I make you do all the work! But I do treasure those who make the effort, and I'll be around for the long haul. :)

My Interests

Animals, books, writing (and editing!), chocolate cake and music, especially Latin music. Anything African also floats my boat, although I haven't been there yet. :( I'm working on it! Take a look at my blogs if you wanna see what drives my life!

I'd like to meet:

On MySpace? Quiero encontrar otros 'Phantoms', y otros partidarios del vagabundo (and if that makes any sense to you, you're probably one of them!) I would also like to meet other postgraduates, and basically anyone who's happy to communicate or has similar interests in life. In general? Ricky baby!! Also: Draco Rosa, Rafael Nadal, Kofi Annan, Angelique Kidjo, and Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezi - the hidden face of progress in South Africa.

Music:

CAN'T live without Draco Rosa right now!For more details, take a look below, and keep an eye out for updates now and then!
I made this music playlist at MyFlashFetish .com.

Movies:

City of God; Captain Corelli's Mandolin; The Black Stallion; Chocolat; The Phantom of the Opera; Pan's Labyrinth; Blood Diamond; The Constant Gardener - this is especially brilliant.

Television:

Any wildlife or nature documentary, plus RSPCA Animal Rescue. I also like Las Vegas, Bones, Criminal Minds - and Torchwood, to 'ave a laugh!

Books:

'The Shadow of the Wind' - Carlos Ruiz Zafon. 'The Horse Whisperer' - Nicholas Evans. 'Scarlett' - Alexandra Ripley. 'Of Love and Other Demons' - Gabriel Garcia Marquez. 'Emma's War' - Deborah Scroggins. 'A Long Way Gone' - Ishmael Beah. Some Wilbur Smith, anything by Isabel Allende, and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Oh yeah - and I read academic journals!!

Heroes:

Firstly, my mum - she's the absolute most - and my boys John and Seyyid for their strength and sweetness. I also admire those with the courage to address issues that are painful or taboo, in the hope of improving the status quo. Ricky Martin and Sorious Samura come to mind here. And anyone who helps animals is a total hero in my book - R.I.P Steve Irwin!

The value of value
