About Me

Born and raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico, began martial arts training in Taekwondo Jidokwan at the local YMCA in 1974 at the age of 15 under the instruction of Kyo Sah Nim (now Grand Master) Danny Ortíz of the Puerto Rico Karate Institute, who in turn was under the tutelage of renowned Grand Master Sihak Henry Cho. I continued training until 1978 when I joined the U.S. Army.In 1982, While stationed in the Republic of South Korea, and was introduced to Hapkido and trained under Master J. S. Chong and obtained a brown belt before departing in 1983.In 1996, I was again deployed sent to Korea for another tour of duty, and began training World Taekwondo Federation [WTF] style TKD under Grand Master Choe Sung-Kyu at the Foreigner's Taekwondo Dojang Gymnasium and received my 1st Dan in January 1997 at Kukkiwon.In March 2001 began training in the traditional Korean art of Tang Soo Do and in Jun 2002, tested and was promoted to 1st Dan by the International Master and founder of the Universal Tang Soo Do Alliance, Sunim Kookjae Kwan Jang Nim Darryl D. Khalid.In September 2002, I opened Choson Martial Arts Club and began teaching.The base martial art we promote is Tang Soo Do, the traditional martial art of Korea. It is known for its awesome power through its hip use both in hand techniques and its high kicks. It is not only a powerful and beautiful art; it is an aerobic workout itself. Ringo
