John Minney’s musical adventure began in the 80s as a singer in an indie/rock band called ‘Romeo Suspect’ touring with Jesus Jones, Ghost Dance and The March Violets. But this all changed in 1989 when he discovered the UK Acid house scene and swapped the live venues for the dancefloor and started promoting the now infamous Betty Ford Clinic between 1992 and 1994. The club quickly gained a reputation way beyond its small beginnings as a midweek night in a underground venue and the DJ celebrities weren’t far behind. The club became the home of debauched parties with the likes of Danny Tenaglia, David Holmes and Judge Jules playing for John. Moving from promoter to club owner on the success of the ‘Betty Ford’ he invested in a night club in China Town, London called The Clinic between 1996 and 1998. This was home to the latest dance music scene introducing broken beats to London, courtesy of Rob Da Bank, DJ Vadim and Afrikka Bambaata to name a few. John then relocated to Brighton in 2000 and started to concentrate on his own Djing and have a break from promoting. He quickly got a weekend residency at Riki Tiks bar alongside then rising stars such as Matt Edwards (Radio Slave). From this he then formed an alliance with an old Acid House colleague (Johnny Hartson) and The Jilted Johns were born. Peroxide was their first venture into the burgeoning electro scene and with rave reviews in MixMag (Electro House night of the South 2004) they played parties with Jon Carter, CiroLoco (DC10), Andrew Weatherall and Sancho Panza. On the back of this success the Jilted Johns were established as residents at BoyGirl/PimpBitchDisko at The Ocean Rooms (www.oceanrooms.co.uk) guesting with many famous names such as Justice, Audio Bullys, Har Mar Superstar, Paul Daley, Peter Hook, The Glimmers and Xpress2. Aside from this residency John has also co-promoted the night White Fang with local promoter Sam Watts bringing live acts as well DJs to Brighton such as Whitey, Mula (Stompaphunk) and Cagedbaby.
