I am here for Friends

About Me

I'm possibly the most honest, benevolent person you'll ever meet.

My Interests

aesthetics & alturism

I'd like to meet:

Samantha Power & Richard Mollica & maybe Werner Hertzog & various cab drivers in foreign countries & humble good cooks.

Music:

I'm experiencing a drought, see interests

Movies:

see music

Television:

There's a scene in a movie where a man throws his tv over a quaint little bridge into a river. I would like to be that man, all the while screaming, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!"

Books:

I like fiction that sticks with me. I like to feel that setting weeks and months after finishing the book. Like Salinger or those Amisted Maupin tales of the city books (sp?), stuff like that, and non-fiction.

Heroes:

my family and the people I hold closest.

My Blog

Icey Land

It's already cold here. I'm not going to make it. If you care, send warmth, or at least come sleep with me.

I'm leaving on a jet plane

Today, I told my kids (students) that I'm leaving. It went pretty well, but there was a second when one of them asked me a question like, "Why?" and I almost lost it. I told them b/c I miss my mom, wh...

Holdiay in Cambodia Take 5

Today is the last real day of my visit to Camboida. I'm ready to go home. I'm finally calling Taiwan home, three weeks before I move. To be honest, even the silly things like dating could probably imp...

Holiday in Cambodia Take 4

We're in Siem Reap and the internet is slower than shit. Hans is waiting for me, but he doesn't really have to. Getting here was a bit overwhelming. We took a boat. The first half of the ride was cool...

Holiday in Cambodia Take 3-1/2

Hans and I leave on a boat at 6:30 tomorrow morning. The trip will be 5-6 hours. I'm sure I'll get some sun. We're only going to stay in Siem Reap for a day and a night. It sounds kind of lame, but I ...

Holiday in Cambodia Day 3

The keyboard on this computer is jacked and I'm pretty shakey. Everything I'm interested in closes around 6pm. After that, I'm better off watching CNN. I ended up with large bills when I exchanged my ...

Holiday in Cambodia Take 2

Today I made up for yesterday. My moto driver met me at 10am. He took me to a better guest house and after checking in, I quickly threw on shorts (now one leg is sunburnt) and we left for the kil...

Holdiay in Cambodia Part I

I got here around 1pm. Leaving Tainan was pretty uneventful. The shuttle-van driver avoided hitting a dog on the highway. The incident scared the shit out of me and thus prevented me from getting some...

Seek and ...

So one of my biggest fears about writing is the possibility of writing something and then realizing that I don't think what I wrote at all. I don't mean the occasional "open mouth, insert foot" scenar...

Read a book

In the book I'm currently reading Wisconsin is described as a portly Teutonic old lady, full of beer and cheese, with a weakness for wild men and underdogs. It also describes a Wisconsin senator...
