i am the sun, the moon, the stars...

About Me

i am not lost
i am
harvesting seeds planted in the
blood of indigenous warriors. tar-Black
ancestors who used sweat-slicked skin to
slip through shit-coated chains of degradation,
mental and psychological enslavement.
i am
the sun, the moon, the stars --- earth manifest ---
naturally rooted to tall trees with rough leaves;
solid, by no means hollow, i cultivate trunks
full of complex question/thought/emotion; feet
buried in red, muddied soil
I SHALL NOT BE MOVED!
until i am finished searching.
i am a junkie when it comes to this thing called poetry. i live and breathe --- crave --- creativity and creative expression...that feeling skimming over my bones, creating ripples in my blood...it's indescribable. the moon rejuvenates me. i work a first shift job that requires me to clock in at 7 a.m., and yet, i rarely make it to bed before 3. i prefer tea over coffee. i am not a morning person, but i love dawn; the moment just before daylight when you can still smell the foggy midst in the air, feel drops of dew in the grass, see the sun peeking around clouds that make you feel like a child again. i believe that everyone enters our lives for a reason. i have a hard time letting go. i wear my heart on my sleeve --- every emotion can be seen in my eyes, or read in my demeanor. i open up to people much too quickly because i believe in laying it all out on the table, and yet, most people see me as a mystery. i am an astrology and tarot whore. i believe in the innate goodness of all. i STILL believe in love though i have had my heart destroyed. to this day, when i love, i love whole-heartedly, with every ounce of who i am because nothing in life should be half-assed or mediocre. i create my own reality, manifest my own destiny, shape my own construction of time. most days i have less than a dime to my name, but money means nothing to me. i love thrift stores. i crave the smell of old books. i believe that LIFE IS A STRUGGLE , buti've been a warrior in every lifetime before this one and i refuse to give up now. my mother is my best friend. the club scene isn't my thing, but i'm a sucker for dim coffee shops and bars with live poetry, jazz, blues, and folk bands. i love to people watch and imagine the intricacies of their lives. i am a peaceful person, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE MOVEMENT, I ADVOCATE WAR!!! i truly believe that knowledge is power. i am analytical to a fault, but will impulsively dive head first into any situation if it FEELS right. small talk doesn't interest me. i am drawn to east indian culture. i want to travel the world, and live abroad for an extended period of time, if not for the rest of my life. i want children someday. i don't believe in the traditional marriage structure and will never walk down the aisle until that right is given to everyone, regardless of their sexuality (my form of protest). i relate EVERYTHING to politics, namely race and class, and yes, it drives most people crazy, but i could care less. i have radical and extremely liberal beliefs. when i walk past trees i feel the urge to sit and commune with them for hours. i don't drive. i'm 23 and i don't have a degree, though i've been in school off and on since 2001. i have a hard time watching movies because i can't sit still and feel the need to talk incessantly (a practice that i thoroughly employ even when not watching movies). i have a cat named yemayah. i don't believe in coincidence. i believe that the lines of one's palms are stories waiting to be read. i demand honesty, if nothing else. jewelry is my weakness, especially if it is East Indian or African. though i look sweet and innocent --- i'm not.
another thing --- i love building with creative people and will not hesitate to offer my support, hence the reason i initially chose not to screen the majority of my friend requests...
but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stop using my page as a posting board for ridiculous advertisements.
i don't mind hosting the occassional upcoming event, album, artist, etc., in fact, in most cases, i'm happy to do it; happy to help get the word out there. but if the only time you stop by my spot is to advertise your own work, your own events -- NEVER dropping a note or a comment to address my work, my page, or to simply say hello, you will be deleted.
i opened this page to build, network, and learn from other artists, not just to promote. if you can't get with that, kindly remove me from your friend's list.
for those of you who aren't currently on my list but are interested in being added, please take the above into consideration.

Sounds Like: HISTORY.

REVOLUTION.

throughout history, and even still, we have allowed ourselves to be stereotyped and misrepresented, we've allowed others (the system as well as those who both knowingly and unknowingly support it) to teach us envy, hate, and greed. we've been distracted; allowing our oppressors to bombard us with images and products and so-called pursuits of happiness that do not serve us --- such as the elusive and unrealistic quest for the "American Dream." we've been molded into mindless consumers and capitalists; taught to look everywhere, except within, for self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance, and respect.

we turn to church.
we turn to the media.
we turn to commericalism, capitalism, materialism.

and where does it get us...?

it's time to stop allowing our oppressive, narrowminded socializer and socializations to prevent us from seeing and seeking truth. NEVER forget that in this land of have's and have-nots, powerful and seemingly powerless, who controls our environment, and most importantly, who it is meant to serve. most of what we are fed on t.v., most of what we see on billboards, most of what we read in magazines, is meant to force us to assimilate into customs and practices that renounce our true natures; patterns of behavior that are not true to who we are at our most divine; who we are when we are truly in touch with our spirits, the universe, one another --- our divinity.

it's time we use this powerful tool for our benefit. whatever our seeming differences, it's time we unite; time we become the embodiment of freedom --- legion of creative thinkers, artists, dreamers, students, spirits --- we were meant to be. time we manifest our power.

FREEDOM.

ME.

about six decades ago, Mahatma Gandhi warned us against what he termed the seven social sins:

1. politics without principle.
2. wealth without work.
3. commerce without morality.
4. education without character;
5. science without humanity.
6. pleasure without conscience.
7. worship without sacrifice.

today we are accept and practice these social sins as if they were the norm. and yet, here are simple acts of revolution that we can engage in daily (taken from a friend's Karen Kerney poster):

turn off our televisions
leave our homes
know our neighbors
look up when we're walking
greet people
sit on our porches
plant flowers
use our libraries
play together
buy from local merchants
share what we have
help lost animals
take our children to the park
garden
support neighborhood schools (or simply education in general!)
fix it even if we didn't break it
have potlucks
honor our elders
pick up litter
read stories aloud
dance in the streets
talk to mail carriers
listen to the birds
put up a swing
help carry something heavy
barter for our goods
start a tradition
ask questions
hire young people for odd jobs
organize a block party
bake extra and share
ask for help when we need it
open our shades
sing together
share our skills
Take Back the Night
turn up the music
turn down the music
listen before we react in anger
mediate a conflict
seek to understand
learn from new and uncomfortable angles
know that though no one is silent, many are not heard ---

WORK TO CHANGE THIS...

BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!!!
