Sounds made with emotion, or computers. Drunk Men with guitars, Sad Boys with guitars. My top 3 bands of all time are Suede, Bauhaus, and Placebo.
Anything that makes you think. Lately I've been watching a bunch of documentaries.
I'm always saying "This is just like that one episode of... [Friends/ The Simpsons/ Seinfeld/ I Love Lucy]." Because Dammit, they're so pertinent. And Arrested Development and Father Ted.
Some of the recent ones I liked were "An Unquiet Mind" by Kay Redfield James, "Shade" by Neil Jordan, and "A Girl Becomes a Comma Like That" by Lisa Glatt (highly recommended). I preach that "House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski is probably the best book ever written. Charles Bukowski is my favorite author overall. I like anything by Tom Robbins (although I always thought If I met him in real life I would think he was an ass). Whatever. Tons of stuff.
My Mom for selflessness and dedication. Bobby Sands for conviction. Michael Moore for not getting angry. Stella McCartney, Joaquin Phoenix, Edward R. Murrow, and Lucille Ball for refusing to compromise. Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the Lush team for vision. Margaret Cho for being able to show humor in everything (which makes it all a little less bad). Hussain Chalayan, Helmut Lang, Pia Myrvold, Vivienne Westwood, and Issey Miyake for challenging the aesthetic standard. Anyone who truly follows their heart. Oh, and Maynard G. Krebbs, just for the hell of it.
