Limboda

Limboda - the name of both an Indian village and perhaps more accurately, the Indian term for an appreciation of one's nature and environment - is the sludge/post-rock brainchild of composer Paul Roberts.Recorded in early 2006, Hypersthene is the debut EP featuring long-time collaborator Randy Solski on drums. Sonic guru James Plotkin mastered the session and the result is a hazy smoke of metal pyschadelia tipping an equal nod to both My Bloody Valentine and Godflesh. Enjoy getting lost in the swamp.This is the first proof of life from Limboda and establishes them firmly in the sludge/post rock genre. What they have to offer is three instrumental tracks (one of them features a short spoken monologue) with a simple, yet effective structure. The riffs are equally simple and encourage you to drift away with their floating and dream-like character. Textures are added with samples, guitar effects, melodies, percussion and clever use of dynamics, making sure that the soundscapes that unfold in front of you never get dull or boring. I think it would be even more interesting with a few more of those spoken monologues, but all in all this is indeed a head-start for Limboda! - The Streets Webzine
