About Me

I am a part-time musician striving to create full-time. My other main identity is a long-time survivor. I write songs; I infuse infectious bluesy grooves with lyrics that portray the world as it is - not always pretty or sing-song. I perform live; I move the crowd with my strong voice and high energy. The stagecraft I've honed through cover band apprenticeships of delivering other artists' material helps me entertain. Hopefully, stagecraft and lyrical content combine to subliminally provoke audience members to at least examine how they are living their lives.I remain committed to expressing my atypical influences from the great works of Langston Hughes, James Baldwin, Zora Neal Hurston, Tony Morrison, Agust Savage and others. Perhaps even more inluential in my aural and other development are the Haitian stories swapped by friends and family. These stories exude a range of emotion and personality from presidential to cowardly. However, I would say my greatest performance and songwriting inspiration derives from my experience as a mother. To continue, there is nothing fancy, no illusions involved. Because I am an artist, I attempt to give the stories I tell rhythm and to turn them into hyms. MySpace Ticker

Influences come from everywhere. First, let's start with life experience, politics, pop culture, racisim, sexism, and even how I look. All of these factors impact how I feel and my feelings carry into the interpretation of a song. I do not strive to sound like any artist even though I perform many standard cover songs. But it's how I feel which dictate the direction of a song. Listen to Besame in its entirety and you'll see. I like artist who take me to a higher plane of consciousness and these following artist do just that: Michael Jackson, Celin Dion, Deborah Cox, Roy Ayeres, Mel Torme, Miles Davis, Ahmad Jamal, Stevie Nicks Charles S. Dutton, Alvin Ailey, Duke Ellington, Thelonias Monk, Al Jarreau, Rochelle Farrel, U2, Nirvana, System of A Down, Stand, Mazz Swift, Sarah Jessica Parker, etc. obviously the list goes on and on. ..
