Mindrot was formed in 1990 by Jason Gaskins, Josh Pugh, Clint Mallard, and Dave Bender. We were students at Lincoln High School, and all four of us were from the same neighborhood - the Colonial Heights area of Stockton, CA. Jason, Josh, and Dave were friends from age 5, growing up blocks away from the grammar school we all attended. We met up with Clint in 10th Grade and went on to form this band during our senior year at Lincoln High, in 1990. The band practiced at my parents house they put up with a lot of noise and traffic. Mindrot played numerous outdoor shows on the big cement stage at Lincoln High, and a couple of parties that I can remember. What I mostly remember is that we practiced about 3-4 days a week, we took the band pretty seriously, and we had a heck of a lot of fun. We often skateboarded around in front of my house before or after jam sessions. We had amp, mic, and guitar technical difficulties almost constantly. Somehow though, all in all, we held it together with an original mix of thrash punk. We were the classic low-budget DIY punk band. Our dream to play at Gilman St. in Berkely, unfortunately was never realized. What remains of Mindrots material existence is one Demo Tape we recorded at my parents house on a Fostex 4 Track, and about 10 other jam room cassettes, and a few sticker and t-shirts that have managed to survive. Mindrot stopped playing regularly when Josh Pugh moved off to Sonoma State University for college. We had some reunion jams throughout 1991-95 but then that ended, for me anyway. I moved away to go to Humboldt State for 3 years, and then disappeared for good into the backwoods of Kauai.
