If there is spoken about House music today, no one means modern disco sound and cheesy vocals anymore. Royal Two are very glad about that, because their definition of House music looks a bit different. However, for many years only one handful of people understood this especially at home in Germany. Today they dont care about that anymore. You realise that Royal Two have been influenced by modern U.K. and U.S. sound, but on the other hand by Tech- and Tribal House as well. House is much more for us! says Jochen Richter, one part of Royal Two: We think that it is irrelevant if any super chiefs tell everyone, that Deep House, Vocal House, Techhouse or any other style is the sound to be at that moment! For Dirk Hai, the other part of Royal Two, the view is still simpler: Chicago is said to be the birth place of House music and Detroit that one of Techno. But what would be Chicago without Detroit? However, it were the minimal sound structures and track based constructions, that made House much more interesting than it was before. DJs, like Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish or Sneak are as cool, as Dave Clarke, Kevin Saunderson or Carl Cox. They are all innovative artists, who strongly influenced the complete music scene. Royal Two dont give much on categorizing their sound. They are seen as representatives of Tribal House. This is due to the fact that their sets regularly contain the pushing and percussive sound and that their productions and remixes follow often the same direction. However, Royal Two are even much more.
Royal Two laid down the foundation for their career on their own. Everything began when Royal Two started their own club night called Royal Sounds Club at the underground club Climax Institutes in Stuttgart. It took place once a month for more than six years and it was the most successful night in the small club. At that time Royal Two build up their musical orientation, without taking care on any trends. Thus they soon counted nationally as style-showing in matters of Underground Housemusic. Very soon after the start of their event series the legendary "M1_The Club became aware of Royal Two and engaged them as resident DJs. The M1_The Club was even at that time one of the most respected and best-known house clubs of Germany beside the Homebase in Stuttgart also internationally active, e.g. on Ibiza, South America or in Miami. Royal Two were playing there for about five years, at least once a month. At their own request Royal Two were leaving the club in the end of 2004. Today they are booked regularly to all top clubs, to the most important big events and since 2001 also to Ibiza every year, e.g. to the legendary clubs "Space", "Amnesia" or "Privillege".
Royal Two receive appreciations for their productions regularly which are to be found in the cases of various DJs colleagues, like Deep Dish, Sander Kleinenberg, Karotte, Andry Nalin, Oliver Moldan, Bush II Bush, Martin Eyerer and many others. Through the growing attention they got more remix work, e.g. for the house diva Jocelyn Brown, for Miss Moneypennys, the label of the well-known English promoter or for the famous German label "Casa Rosso Recordings".
Very important for Royal Two is, to be able to produce on their own. Royal Two take the producing work very seriously. We dont want to spend some time with a producer in a studio and to instruct him from the sofa what and how to do, in order to sell the track afterwards as our own thing. Jochen Richter says, We became acquainted with the matter of producing as we want to make our stuff on our own. But thats not really a problem for him, he finished educations in sound engineering and knows his stuff at best.
2005 was a start for many new releases by Royal Two. First there was their new mix- album called Two Close to Call, which earned worldwide respect in the press. A couple of vinyl-singles were following, e.g. Asio Nerve / 999% on Session Deluxe. But the foundation of their own label called RoyToys Recordings was their most important step into future. This label is a place for own productions, but also for tracks of other artists, who agree with Royal Twos opinion about house music. Their first release was in the last year and many releases will follow, like releases by D-Dogs (Andry Nalin & Martin Eyerer) or Luetzenkirchen.
Furthermore Royal Two did a spectacular remix for the classic track "I Rock" by Germany´s House DJ No. 1 Tom Novy. He liked their re-interpretation a lot and put it on his new mix-compilationNouveaux Niveau. And even for this years hit "Your Loving" Arms by Karen Overton, Royal Two were on remix duty and did a fantastic job.
