Zimbabwean born artist Atten Ink started painting walls with stencils in 2002 after an article on banksy opened his eyes to the world of street art.
Amongst a booming stencil scene which would see Melbourne become the capital or Mecca for stencil based street art,and inspired by an amazing pool of internationally renound artists such as phibs, Rone and prism to name a few. It was around this time that Atten Ink or A.I created the mischievous and often whimsical character baby bear who started appearing in and amongst Melbourne’s network of back alleys. A.I's baby bear now can be seen all over the Melbourne area in various forms.
A.I singled himself out from a large crowd of talented street artists to go on and exhibit work in a number of sell out exhibitions around the world as well as shows in Melbourne and Sydney.
More recently A.I discovered the new vibrant scene of Designer Vinyl or art toys which gave him the idea for the notorious and informas show Plastic Pimps. The first of which held in early 2006 was a huge success, it travelled to Sydney before coming home to a huge show in Melbourne. The concept behind these shows is not new but never before seen here in Australia, simply it is to give some of Australia’s best graf artists, graphic designers, tattoo artists and fine artists a toy and let them use this 3d canvas to create a one off piece of art. The first Plastic Pimps show is currently travelling to Adelaide and then on to Canada.
