From the early ages of her life she was interested in music and drawing. Elena inherited the music talent from her mother.
The real start of Elena's approach in music was in 1992 when she had a music performance with one friend in front of the parents in the kindergarten.
In 1994 Elena joined KUD "Kocho Racin" (club for folk dances and songs). Also, she sung a song at her school in the "Young Imitators" show. Besides singing, drawing and dancing, Elena was member of the drama club.
In 1996 for the first time she was on TV. That was at "Mak-Karaoke Show" at "A1 TV" with the song "Flamingo". That same year she started to take a course in English language, but also in French. Elena started to sing in the school chorus and went to Bulgaria at her first tour with the folk dances club.
In 1998 Elena took part in many competitions and won many local, national and international prizes in drawing.
Elena proved her talent in poetry by one song of her, that won title the best and was published in children newspaper "Our World" in 1999.
In 2000 Elena had a tour to Turkey, Czech Republic and Bulgaria with KUD "Kocho Racin". During these tours, Elena took part in the folk dances club, but also in the chorus. That year Elena was at one art colony in Strumica, too.
In December 22nd 2002 Elena took part at a talent search music competition "Play - Search For A Star" ("I Want To Be A Star, Too") organized by "M2" Production. She sang the song "The Other Thing" and won this competition. Her song became big hit in Macedonia. This was first serious step in the world of music for Elena. Her popularity was rising day by day.
In July 2003 her debut album called "Den I Nok" (Day And Night) saw the daylight. It helped Risteska to become popular not only in her native Macedonia, but also in several Balkan countries. "Den I Nok" contained 9 songs, and many of them became hit singles.
Other than singing, Elena is also a songwriter, too. She writes lyrics for her songs, but also for other artists at "M2 Production": "4Play" ("Please Don't Cry" - "Te Molam Ne Plachi"), Emil Arsov, Izabela Jovanov, Sevim Mustafa, Dimitar Andonovski.
On the 4th of March 2006, Macedonia selected its song for the "Eurovision Song Contest Athens 2006". The selection was organized by MTV in few of its studios. The winner was selected by televoting. Elena Risteska won this competition with the song "Ninanajna". "Ninanajna" is pop song and contains elements of dance and r&b music. The music was made by Darko Dimitrov, and lyrics by Rade Vrchakovski.
On the 18th of May, Elena performed at the Semi Final at the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens. She was contestant #11. The crowd LOVED her. She made it into the Finals contestant #11 again. The Newspapers reported:
"Come on!" shouts Elena Risteska of FYR Macedonia as her song starts. And the audience is immediately under her spell. "Ninanajna" is an up-tempo pop song that is both ethnic and modern and Elena looks great, dressed in daring hot pants and high heels. After a hugely energetic performance, she ends up have a well-earned sit down... on her backing dancer's back!
On the 20th of May, Elena performed at the Finals once more at the Eurovision Song Contest. She came 12th with 56 points. The Newspapers reported:
Another song that made it through the Semi-Final is 'Ninanajna' by Elena Risteska from FYR Macedonia. It's a tune that makes you want to dance...and the huge group of her supporters in the arena do just that. In the song, Elena name checks Beyonce and Shakira but surely even they can't gyrate her hips like Elena can. A great performance.
After finishing 12th at the Contest. Elena made Macedonia and her family PROUD. It was one of the BEST entries Macedonia has EVER entered in the contest and has came top place for Macedonia. Even though she came 12th, she'll ALWAYS be #1 for everyone who loved and cheered her on.
After her countless hits released in the past year, Elena's second album, "192", was released at the end of 2006. The album contains Ninanajna, Esen vo Mene, a Macedonian version of "Ne Mogu", and new material. Her new single "192" is currently on rotation on radio stations. 192 is the number prefix for emergencies in Macedonia.
In 2007, Elena took part in Skopje Fest 2007, the Macedonian Eurovision selection. Although she was not a performer this time, she wrote the lyrics for the song "Belo e se" ("Everything is White"), which was performed by Lambe Alabakoski and came in third place with 101 points.
In Eurovision Song Contest 2007, she delivered the results of the national Macedonian televoting during the final night.
On the 8th of May 2007 for her 21st Birthday she was given' as a present a dog which she named Valery. She Said that it was the most beautiful present. She went to the TV show Melita Rakicevikj (famous for pet show broadcaster). She was given this dog from one of her fans Ivana Balabanova.

"Pejacka na godinata - 2006" (Female singer of the year) - by "Zlatna Bubamara na popularnosta"(Golden Lady Bug) an annual popularity contest.
"Duet na godinata 2006" - "Ljubav nije za nas" Elena i Grupa Regina, na "Oskar popularnosti" vo Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina ("Duet of the year 2006") for the song "Love is not for us" by Elena and The group Regina, on the manifestation "Oscar of popularity" in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
