About Me

I Won’t ComplainI could’ve been dead, locked up or strung out on drugs. I could’ve been rich and famous and living the lifestyle of an infamous athlete. I could’ve been anything I wanted to be, but I decided to be ME and for that, I won’t complain. How many times have you heard those statements? You see, because we have forgotten our ancestry, our children no longer give us honor. Because we have lost the path our ancestors cleared, kneeling in perilous undergrowth, our children cannot find their way. Because we have banished the God of our ancestors, our children cannot pray. Because the old wails of our ancestors have faded beyond our hearing, our children cannot hear us crying. Because we have abandoned our wisdom of mothering and fathering, our befuddled children give birth to children they neither want nor understand. Because we have forgotten how to love, the adversary is within our gates, and holds us up to the mirror of the world, shouting, “Regard the loveless.” I won’t complain. I pledge to bind myself again to one another. I pledge to embrace our lowliest, to keep company with our loneliest, to educate our illiterate, to feed our starving, to clothe our ragged, to do all good things, knowing that we are more than the keepers of our brothers and sisters. We are our brothers and sisters. In honor of those who toiled and implored God with golden tongues, and in gratitude to the same God who brought us our hopeless desolation, I make this pledge. I won’t complain about what I don’t have and don’t possess. For he supplies all of my needs, he is the light and the help from where my strength cometh. I’ve had some good days and some bad days, but I won’t complain. You see we live in a society bombarded with negative reactions to the hand that life has dealt us. We make excuses and point fingers at others when it’s our own fault at why we are who we are. If, but, and maybe are just words that conjunct to an action that neither happened nor transpired. I’ve been lied on, I’ve been talked about, I’ve been misunderstood, I’ve been down and out, but I won’t complain. Thank you lord. I am somebody and I won’t complain. God is good. Stop complaining and do something about your current situation. Go back to New Orleans and help rebuild “your” home. Get a job and stop depending on the government to pay your bills, feed and clothe your children. They weren’t present when they were conceived. Go back to school and get your high school diploma. Stop complaining about what you don’t have and go out and get it. And all of Gods people said AMEN!K.Reed, 2007@
