About Me

I'm Alex. I'm a senior in college, and I know how much the list format appeals to people. So I'll make a couple here:

Positives:

Cooking everything, running everywhere, balancing my checkbook, buying books, reading/finishing books, driving, This American Life, the smell of blown-out birthday candles, puns, the ocean, rainy days, staying home, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, puzzled looks, taking vacations (something I do at least three times a year).

Negatives:

Spiders, angry drivers, bad poetry, my own bad poetry, turbulence, Savannah, GA, cats, my credit card, my boss' perfume, the gas light, dirty fingernails, junk food.

A fat, tired argument.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like discussion of bodies and appearance has reached a fever pitch lately in the media, the "blogosphere" (I will never get used to that word), and in regular, everyda...

Selling candles on the internet like a douchebag.

Friends:As some of you know, I was recently laid off from my job at Hallmark due to the store closing. I have been tirelessly searching for a new job, but the going is rough and there are bills to pay...

College 101

Recently I've been entertaining some not-very-nurturing thoughts about the prospect of not graduating.Yeah, I know these are probably the typical last-year-of-college-self-doubts, but for whatever rea...

Everything You've Never Wanted To Say

A lot of things are gradual. A gradual ascent, descent. A gradual realization. A gradual mistake. But there has to be one day, one hour, one instant when something changes. There must be a minute wher...

The Good Times Are Killing Me

Spring Break won't be officially over until I go to Fiction class tomorrow, but the good parts came to an end yesterday when Jen and I drove to St. Augustine from Savannah. Here's an illustrated summa...

Working For the Weekend

On a whim of sorts ("of sorts" meaning that it was still kind of spontanaeous even though I agonized over it for approximately 12 hours), I drove up to Savannah after classes on Thursday to see Jen. T...

Words of Love

I have been doing a lot of thinking this morning about things, and I'm beginning to wonder why people are often just as afraid of the past as they are the future. I know I am, and I keep having to ask...

The lesbians! They are EVERYWHERE.

My Pop Culture professor came out in class today, to a lecture hall of 100+ mildly intolerant (compared to other college campuses) college students. I was impressed. I really, really wanted to say som...
