About Me

Blend a cup of soul, a tablespoon of honesty, a pinch of pain, and what do you get? Nothing less than the provocative woman that is Solan Rai!
This sultry Singer/Songwriter/Producer uniquely blends elements of reggae and house into a funky mix of progressive sound that illuminates the mundane; and with the self-release of her debut album, Liberated Sol: The Love Experience, Solan Rai is blazing a trail with a powerful feminine energy rarely found on this side of the universe. Her counter-cultural lyrics challenge the status quo, and cut a unique pattern from the fabric of Soul pioneers from days past. Whether grappling with the risks of romance in "Somebody", or challenging surface perceptions in "Slowly", Rai religiously brings truth to the forefront in a way that is soft and unassuming.
Born and raised in Nashville, Rai acquired an appreciation for music far before words were an option for her expression. Growing up the eldest daughter of a bassist trapped in the funk revolution, she quickly learned the liberating power of music and devoted her life to pursuing it. She began her performing career as a triple-threat in theatre, but eventually gravitated towards the art of song. After a brief run on the Nashville music scene, her pursuit for liberation lead her to Atlanta, where she arrived haphazardly with the smell of burnt rubber still in her clothes.
Atlanta welcomed Rai with a plethora of challenges and opportunities. Trying to find her niche, she frequented coffee houses and open mic cafés, sharing her essence through poetic lyric. Never neglecting her affinity for song, she soon found herself in studios tracking background vocals and arranging spots for radio and television advertisements. However, it wasn't until she completed a deeply introspective and transforming educational endeavor that she found her voice. This experience married a painful past with a renewed sense of conviction and consciousness, and with fire on her tongue, she set out to take the universal force that is music by storm!
