Vintage Urban Village.
Urban Village opened it's first shop back in 1998, before that I wasa collector of all things from the late 50's all of the 60's and the goodbits from the 70s. I was around and doing my thing in the late 70's and intothe 80's, apart from the Mod/Ska revival I found the rest of the 1980's verydrab indeed.
In January of 2008 I decided to close Urban Village as a shop after10 years of being involved in retail. I decided to move into internet onlysales via eBay and my own website which goes on line very soonwww.urban-village.co.uk . It was a very hard decision to close my shopsafter many good years of fun meeting like minded people and I wasoverwhelmed by the good luck emails and the amount of support I receivedabout how much this shop had meant to so many people who used it on aregular basis.
I sold almost anything of interest in my shopsRecords/Clothing/Furniture It all went into the melting pot and come outwith a cool blend of cutting edge style. Which had attracted people like:Blondie, The Hives, Supergrass, The Editors, O.C.S the list went on & on !,I even got the chance to work on TV & Radio, plus I worked with greatcompanies like Levi's, Lee & Tootal to name a few !
But I saw the Rot !
About 18 months ago I saw something I did not like ! Almosteverywhere I looked someone was selling vintage/retro gear, all the big highstreet clothes shops have their bit, Egg chairs can be found in the likes ofIkea and the bands of today were thinking its cool to put out there token500 7'' records to look vintage !. I knew then that I had to get out of theretail side of things and start selling to people who wanted genuine vintageand would take the effort to track it down, not just walk into their localshop and pay for overpriced tat wanting to be vintage !
I still Love what I do !
Yes it's true I still Love vintage, the music, clothing scooters evenat my age the drive is higher now than it's ever been. I want to still sellmy great vintage items to all the cool people I have met over the years atmy shops and new one's to come. I will also be doing, vintage markets,scooter rallies and other cool events, (so subscribe to my blog forforthcoming dates ! ) Thanks for taking the time to read this and remember keep it VINTAGE !
