I like to make pictures.
At this point I will take anyone who is not outwardly hostile... I am the crown prince of low standards.
I'm willing to give anything a go...I like punk rock that's not from california. Hip-hop that's not about guns or money. Country that is made with soul. Indie that's not too pretentious. Rockabilly that was actually made in the 50's. Ska and rocksteady from Jamaica. Metal that doesn't make my eyes twitch. Jazz from the bebop era and earlier. And most of all I refuse to listen to any music made by a band who does now, or did at one time, wear a clown mask while performing.
I like to watch documentaries about Palestine and art movies about depressing subjects so other people will think I'm cool.
I haven't watched T.V. in nearly 4 years. I'm a big fan of T.V. on DVD though.
Anything with lots of pictures and essays by pretentious assholes with multiple degrees in photography criticism. Novels about music. Memoirs not written by sour bastards. Books about making or drinking beer. Books about cultures I don't understand. Religious theory. Revisionist historical novels about the great events that have shaped the world. Stories about journalists behaving badly.
The Baal Shem Tov, Johnny Cash, Iggy Pop, David Johansen, Ira Glass, Alex Webb, Martin Parr, Sam Calagione, Edward Said, Mos Def, Elliot Erwitt, people who let me make their picture, and anyone else who can change the way I look at something.
