Giselle Blanche, also known as Giselle The Wassi One, is part of a strong musical heritage. Her father, Keith Blanche, appointed his daughter two soca ambassadors, Baron and Superblue as her godfathers. This decision would ultimately fulfill a prophecy of the role that she would play later in life. Giselle's first venture in the music arena was when she spearheaded the birth of a carnival mas band, called D Wassi Ones and D Wassi Babes in 1987 and historically became Miami's youngest bandleader ever. She later made the transition to radio when she joined the popular Caribbean radio station, MIXX 96.1 as a rookie in November 1996, after being encouraged by former schoolmates and station founders Daddy Saw and Joey Budafuco. They had always known of her serious passion for soca/ Caribbean music and culture and her vibrant personality. From her first day on air, the vibes and energy that came from this young woman have been unstoppable. Giselle transformed the Jamaican dancehall mic format and emerged as the first soca mic person. She was crowned, DWassi One, by fellow on air personality, Papa Keith, after he saw her coming to the studio around Miami Carnival time covered in glitter and glue and to this day, that is her namesake. During her tenure with MIXX, Giselle has spread her wings to nightclub appearances such as her regular spot in the Soca Room at the Madhouse on the road at Ole Ole, Las Olas Riverfront weekly on Fridays and regular guest appearances at Socamania inside Banana Boat in Fort Lauderdale. She has also traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean representing soca music. In 1999, she joined Mystic 1580AM hosting her own show for one year while still hosting her own show on MIXX 96. It was always Giselles wish to collaborate with fellow MC and DJ, Lady Terra, one of South Floridas top reggae Selectors. During a re-formatting phase for the station, she suggested that they combine efforts and develop a program that they would host together to blend soca and reggae as well as their DJing styles. From that moment on the two were dubbed DOUBLE TROUBLE! The joint Diva effort brings a completely new format to the South Florida on air market and has received rave reviews from their dedicated listeners. Featured in a front page Miami Herald article in October 2003, Giselle may now be caught on television on Video Mix in a segment called Island Vibes which features the hottest Caribbean music videos, artists and deejays. She has also recorded numerous soca songs including the hits Carnival Calling featuring Alison Hinds, Selecta featuring Benjai, Divas Run De Town with Denise Belfon andParty. She earned two nominations in the 2004 Soca Awards for Best New Artist as well as Best Collaboration for her song with Benjai. She was also voted South Florida Female DJ of the Year 2003 and 2004. With all of that, Giselle is not satisfied. As a matter of fact, she says she has only just begun. In 2005, the vision is much the same for Giselle, keep the flag and the vibes of the Caribbean flying high. Two more nominations have come her way for Best Female Soca Artist USA and South Florida Female DJ of the Year. With soca music headed to the Grammys in 2006, there is no question that this multi talented, multi faceted Diva is going to be all in that some way, somehow. As she would say herself, Miss It? Yuh Mad or Wha?
