‹ Well first off an introduction is mandatory, considering this is a “get to know about me” type of deal. I go by Lisa…most call me Lisa Marie, Lis, or Maria…some others call me Hey You or Lunchbox…those aren’t as common, but they do come up every once in a while. I’m a twenty-one year old sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater; almost certain I would like to major in Political Science, minor in History. Maybe do something with music, try out a natural or lab science. Don’t really know yet. I was born and raised here in Wisconsin; I’ll always consider it my home. Although our seasons basically are winter, almost winter, still winter, and construction…Forbes named Milwaukee the nation’s Drunkest City…it can be May and we can have a blizzard, and it can be December and it can be warm. Nothing says “Wisconsin” more than Harley Davidson, dairy, beer, Summerfest, and of course…kringle. :) Thanks to Ra-town. But back to me, I guess…I’m half Italian courtesy of my father and half Slovak thanks to my mother. Family and friends are a very important factor to me; they’re the ones I feel the closest to. I feel that no matter what happens your family should be the ones to support and love you and stand by your side. I believe in treating people with respect and courtesy, however if you don’t show this to me, I won’t give it in return. I am a very caring, understanding, big-hearted person, and I can be a total sweetheart unless you piss me off, or hurt someone I hold dear to me. I have my strengths and weaknesses, I have my flaws, and I accept that. Nobody is perfect, everybody makes mistakes and I will never be perfect, or stop making mistakes. If we all can look past those things, and have the ability to laugh; not just in general but at ourselves, we would all be so much happier. I try my hardest to see the good in everybody; I am accepting of all people. I don’t like to judge, however sometimes I’m guilty of “jumping the gun”…but then again, who isn’t? I have a very strong personality; a strange sense of humor, and a good heart. Life is a constant learning experience; it doesn’t matter if you graduate high school or college…you never stop learning. Take the time to open up your mind and listen to what others have to say, because to look at someone and not like them because of race, religion, gender, ethnicity, is ignorant. You may learn something amazing. Racism is bullshit – people ask why racism is still around, and say “aren’t we past all that?” I’ll let you in on a little secret…hate will survive if there are still people out there willing to do so. You can’t change the world, but you do have the ability to change yourself if you want to. The opinions I have may be strong, but I in turn respect yours.
I may not be the most interesting person out there; I have not done much in my young life so far, but I plan on it. I’m always open to meeting and talking to new people, no matter your age, gender, race, color…I’m not going to claim I am “awesome”, or “cool”; I will leave that up for you to decide. But I am the kind of friend that will stay true to you if you stay true to me. If you talk to me, I’ll talk to you. If you need help, I’ll gladly reach out and help you as best as I can. I don’t ask for much in return; I don’t do good deeds because I expect something huge in return. The polite thing to do, however, is to say “thank you”, and be considerate. That was just how I was brought up.
This is just the tip of the iceberg for an “about me” section. If you look at my profile, you can get a hint of my interests and hobbies. I shouldn’t have to sit here and try to convince someone how good or bad of a person I am. It’s all based on character, actions, and decisions. I know what good qualities I have, but they mean more when someone else notices them. I am an individual, not easily influenced, and I won’t conform just to feel accepted. If I have to change who I feel I am; what I am most comfortable being, just to make someone else happy, then I would just be lying to myself. Be true to yourself, be real, and most of all, be happy with who you are. Actions speak louder than words. So I’ll leave you with this…once you get to know me, what is your perception on me? Who do YOU think I am? Because I already know who I am…I am a “choir geek”, a wrestling fan, a music lover, a good person. I am strong and weak, I follow and lead. I laugh, cry, get angry, yell, act like a kid and am serious when I need to be. I am a person; a human being. I am Lisa Marie, and it’s all I want to be.
