KRLX is a not-for-profit, educationally licensed FCC station owned by Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota that broadcasts from 16 meters at 100 Watts on the Carleton campus. Headed by the all-student Board of Directors, the ranks of volunteers at KRLX-FM are open to Carleton students, faculty, staff, and members of the community.
The core mission of programming on KRLX is to make accessible local and independent music, local news and events, and awareness of community issues while building relationships within Carleton College, the Northfield community, and between the two.
Started in 1948, the history of Carleton radio is long and storied. In order to document this history as best we can, a timeline of events as told by DJs, members of the Board of Directors, and all others associated with both KARL and KRLX has been established below.
