About Me



. I've been serving as an education volunteer in the US Peace Corps since July 2005. I live in Mauritania, a significantly sized Islamic country that straddles the Sahel and Sahara deserts of West Africa. I teach high school English to French and Pulaar speaking students in a small village just north of the Senegal River.     My Interests

    Reading, Cards baseball, traveling, cooking (aspiring restauratrice), not getting malaria, squash in all of its many delicious flavors, sports (especially softball), turning double plays with the Deuce, cheb-o-sauce, The Salamander, Gazelles, the fluttering wonder that is Tarn Mower, Gorgol quarterly campouts, writing, hiking, anything outdoors........,celebrity gossip, Nescafe, trips to Senegal, listening to my Ipod, going on long walks, buying new shoes, long weekends in Nouakchott (bathtubs!), air conditioning, not playing frisbee, turning flour into food, and head-butts.

    I'd like to meet:

    Eleanor Roosevelt, Norm MacDonald, Placido Polanco, Roseanne Rosannadanna, David Sedaris, Charles Nelson Reilly, Thorzul from Storylords, the creator of Swedish Fish, and anyone who knows that "your" is possessive and "you're" means "you are."

    Music:

    Jamiroquai, Pearl Jam, The Eagles, Carole King, Neil Diamond, Patsy Cline, Simon & Garfunkel, Van Morrison, Bob Seger, The Shins, The Beatles, bitchin Arabic dance music, Liz Phair, Dr. Hook, ALABAMA, 311, Reverend Horton Heat, The Statler Bros., Frank Sinatra, Green Day, Oasis, I don't even know why I'm bothering, there are way too many.

    Movies:

    My all time fav is "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken," starring none other than the late Don Knotts as Luther Heggs. I also really, really like "Elf and any other films that make me laugh."

    Television:

    Not a big tube watcher, however, will cancel just about any rendez-vous for an episode of "Cheers" (post Shelley Long). Also a fan of Futurama and The Match Game (hence the previously mentioned Charles Nelson Reilly).

    Books:

    Any non-fiction (right now I am reading the Secret Lives of the First Ladies), The Princess Bride, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Kite Runner, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Red Tent, trashy romance novels, The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series, Harry Potter, all literary pornography, anything by David Sedaris, Carl Hiassen, Peter Mayle, Barbara Kingsolver, Anne Tyler, Anita Shreve. I'll read anything as long as it's not Hemingway.
