Parable 2: Those that give, have less
Once upon a time there was a little bunny hopping through the forest that stumbled upon a great big basket. The basket was full of all kinds of wonderful and delightful foods! It was packed with nuts and fruit and chocolate and everything a bunny could ever dream of. The bunny was ever so happy and began to hop her merry way back to her home in the little grassy knoll by the creek. She was finally going to be able to go into hibernation, as it was getting deathly close to winter. On the way home, the bunny ran into his friend Nutty McSquirrel. Nutty McSquirrel was very sick, and had been so terribly ill that he had not been able to go and gather food for the upcoming winter. The bunny was shocked. “No food for the winter!†she said, “How horrible!†The bunny felt so terrible for the little squirrel that she decided to give the squirrel her entire basket of delectable foods. She told herself, "I'll go out and gather my food for the winter tomorrow!" and everyone was happy. “Hooray!†shouted the squirrel; the winter won’t be so bad after all. However, to the bunny’s dismay, it snowed the next day and the bunny was not able to go out and collect food. “It’ll be okayâ€, the bunny said to herself, “Soon enough the first winter snow will melt and I’ll have plenty of time to collect all kinds of things for me to eat while hibernating this winterâ€. Unfortunately, after 2 weeks had passed the snow had not let up. Instead, a winter storm rolled in, and a treacherous blizzard dropped inches upon inches of snow. The boisterous winds never let up, and the clouds seemed to have an infinite supply of snow. The bunny was not happy. In fact, the bunny was starving to death and shivering uncontrollably. “If only I had kept my basket of delightful foodâ€, the bunny stammered frigidly, “If only…â€. The next day the bunny died and later that afternoon the snowfall finally let up. If only the bunny had known what Mother Nature had in store she might still be here today hopping throughout the forest, and breathing, like all of the other bunnies that did not foolishly give away their food supply for the winter.
Are you proud of yourself? You've just successfully wasted five minutes of your life that you will never be able to get back. Take a lesson from the bunny, jerk.
