Who's Steve the Pirate?

About Me

So many people have these creative little descriptions of themselves in this spot about how cool and fun they are or some thought provoking anecdote. Um, I am not sure how to tell someone about myself. I can tell you that I am busy most of the time. I am always comfortably stressed. I can be quite the juggler. I am mostly happy. I try to do the right thing all the time and can be a perfectionist but struggle to forgive myself for not being perfect. I think I have worked hard and it is paying off well. My life rocks. Things have moved fast in the last year. I have a great job and a nice home. My little family is continuing to grow. I am adding a husband and a stepson (Horton the canine)along with our newly adopted family members Rocko the kitten and Emma our baby beagle. I like fun nights with great people, margharita's (ONE mannhattan after particularly hard weeks), live music, driving my car in seventy-five degree weather with the windows down and the sunroof open singing at the top of my lungs, standing at the edge of the ocean with no land in sight....

My Interests

books, people, learning new things... (well except about the insides of cars... them things just go right over my head.) Currently interested in how money works... (I got the basics...) Buddhism and eastern thought... How not to screw up on parenting.... Changing the world and getting to Africa.

I'd like to meet:

people that are openminded and enjoy living life. Reuniting with former friendly faces would be great, too!

Music:

I can dig on anything. In my CD player right now is... Tori Amos, Jack Johnson, Sublime, Dixie Chics (mommas that rock!), Dave Matthews Band (these guys make love to my ears), and Blues Clues/Dora the Explorer Sing Along (and yes, I sing along).

Movies:

i like them when i can see them... love lord of the rings, read the books and watched the movies loved it all... tommy boy is an all time favorite... there is gummo... which is certainly memorable... finding nemo, mostly because of my son, I will have it memorized soon. Kung Pao. Dodgeball. I am Sam. Dogma. Hmm...

Television:

Don't watch TV much these days but I am dedicated to a few shows.... I love House MD, American Idol (oddly enough I have seen all 4 seasons and have only voted twice), Friends (first six seasons on DVD), Desperate Housewives when I am not working... and like Greys Anatomy thanks to Kaylor...

Books:

I love books. I read many at a time.. parenting books, teaching books, the Bible, philosophy... I will read the back of a cereal box...

Heroes:

Dr. Catherine Hamlin...this australian doctor went to Africa to help women who has suffered trauma to their bodies as a result of birthing children as young as 12 and 13. Because their bodies weren't ready to have children as well as the lack of anesthesia and days of labor, these young women often lost their babies and developed a fistula in their bladder that caused them to leak waste. They were then forced out of their communities because of their smell and forced to live in solitude.. sometimes with children if they survived. This doctor moved to africa and would perform surgery and fix this fistula so they could resume living a normal life. She is my hero. All of those people that use their gift and craft to make a difference no matter how small are my heros.
