From its beginnings four years ago, Trial and Error has gone through many personnel changes as well as changes in their sound. Loosing their longtime dummer, Luke Smith, to NYU's Tisch School of music in 2004, caused T&E to seriously question their future. In an attempt to save the band, they decided that Trial's award winning guitarist, Matt Bowers, would step up to the plate to play drums. With this new lineup, Trial re-focused their musical direction and emerged with a whole new and original sound. Their music has often been described as a unique blend of Emo, Alternative, and Classic Rock. In 2005 Trial and Error added the new, young guitar player, and long time friend, Harrison Coffer to the roster. Later that year Luke Smith re-joined the band as a second guitar player, and gave the band its current lineup. Known for their crowd pleasing shows, Trial's ability to "deliver the goods" has spawned excellent reviews and has caused their already large fan base to continue in growth. They have been featured in numerous articles in The Capital, Bay Weekly, and The Washington Post. Having played in front of crowds ranging from fifty to over a thousand, Trial's ultimate goal continues to be: providing their fans with great fun and great music.
