About Me

Orlando Clark is a 18 year old saxophonist. He began playing the tenor saxophone at the age of 11, when the music program at his middle school required him to pick up an instrument. Orlando fell in love with the instrument, and began to practice as much as possible teaching himself what he could, and learning from recordings. "I didn't know what I was doing" he says. "All I knew was that, I wanted to sound like those cats on those recordings. I didn't even know what transcibing was, I just wanted to sound like Dexter (Gordon) and Sonny (Rollins) so I would sit there and just copy whatever they played."Orlando became serious about jazz when he begun to attend the CPSM Jazz Program, that was offered at Queens College. There he learned from an amazing faculty which includes such artist as Russ Johnson, Jacob Sacks, Bob Bowen, Khabu Doug Young, Michael Mcginnis, and others. "They really opened up my mind, and allowed me to think for myself and form my own opinions, rather than just blindly listening to everything everyone would tell me." Under there guidence, Orlando began to develop his own sound, and his own unique approach to music, and improvisation. Orlando has had the chance to sit in and play with many groups in New York including the Jazz Band Classic ( a big band affiliated with New York Youth compiled of the top musicians in New York under the age of 22 ) and is currently working with young musicians, in and around the tri-state area.Orlando is currently attending Suny Purchase, and continuing his study in music.
