I WILL HAVE AN ACTUAL, HONEST-TO-GOD WEBSITE SOON FOR MY PRODUCTION STUFF.
Enjoy what's here until then. I'll probably send around a bulletin or something when the site launches, because I know how much I love getting unsolicited correspondence.
About the music currently posted:
Electric Counterpoint, III
This is the third movement of minimalist icon Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint. It is written for "solo guitar and tape".
Libra Sonatine: Fuoco
A piece written for solo guitar by the French guitarist Roland Dyens (Jazz, Classical, prodigal madman in general). It's the 3rd movement of his 3 movement "Libra Sonatine".
I first came across this while living in Colorado amongst some of the finest guitarists I have ever heard. My friend Taku Oshiba played it for me one day and I made him xerox the sheet music as soon as he finished.
Prelude No. 1 for Guitar
This is one I wrote. The idea behind this came when I was improvising the first sections for someone who wanted to hear me play. I could tell that the minimalist repetition I am so fond of was not at all having the same effect on the listener, so I changed things up a bit to keep it interesting.
The rest of the piece sort of evolved from there- it changes away from the bass ostinato in the beginning in the chordal section in the middle, and then regains the ostinato before the final cadence: B,C. This to me represents the regular of regular endings and is a pretty traditional finality.
Julie O
Julie O was originally written for solo Cello by Mark Summer, who is the cellist in the Turtle Island String Quartet. This is my arrangement of the piece for guitar.
