The Brothers and Sisters United for Christ Foundation (BSUC) is a growing non-profit organization dedicated to uniting Christian evangelical churches for the cause of Christ. BSUC was born in August 2004 out of the vision the Lord instilled in its chief executive director and founder, Everett Gutierrez with its cofounder, Amanda Serrano. Although, they began their work within their own church community, the ultimate goal was to engage Christians throughout the Chicagoland community. Through networking with other churches in the community, BSUC realized that the churches, although united through Christ, were lacking in the outward testimony that distinguishes the followers of Christ as truly unified and working as one in love for one another. BSUC also noticed the lack of funding and resources which churches, seeking to develop programs and events for the purpose of community service and outreach, where able to access.BSUC began to work on the mission through a variety of events, such as youth rallies, unity services, and benefit concerts. On August 6, 2005, as a culmination of these events, BSUC organized the first annual “Family Christian Paradeâ€. Following this event, in October 2005, BSUC organized a partnership concert to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. They raised money and supplies for those displaced by the disaster. This was the beginnings of mutual collaboration, teamwork, and dialogue between pastors, young adults, volunteers, and leaders of various churches. From these ongoing events and meetings it was unanimously decided by BSUC volunteers to invest in the community and local churches as a unified group, under the auspices of BSUC and the church leaders. Most of the churches participating in BSUC events have smaller congregations with anywhere between 30 to 200 members. Ministry programs within many of these churches are limited and primarily geared toward adults. BSUC has been a vehicle for teens and young adults to come together to express their beliefs and share their gifts and talents. The organization has attracted many of them as active volunteers who are committed to the mission of the organization. Currently, the organization has over 150 active volunteers and welcomes others that are willing to serve under the same purpose.Since its inception, BSUC has provided social service referrals to individuals and families who come to its office with a variety of needs. Working in collaboration with nonprofits, churches, and human service organizations, BSUC has been effective in helping individuals in need and crisis situations.
