Hi!
If you found this page, you've probably already met my altar ego here, Billy Jack at www.myspace.com/_billy_jack . Thanks for visiting. He gets a lot more friend requests than I do and he isn't even real! It's very depressing.
I'm a freelance writer in Southern California.
You can read my work in the book Chicken Soup to Inspire the Body and Soul or visit www.markrickerby.com for links to a few of my magazine articles and online publishings.
Look for my book "Inner and Outer Peace Through Martial Arts" at a bookstore near you soon, part self-defense book and part memoir about the evolution of a martial artist from child to adult. Though it is a self-defense book, the "instruction" (for lack of a better word) is really how to let go of conflict within ourselves to achieve harmony outside of ourselves. It also reveals the fatal flaws most men carry with them to the grave, flaws they must overcome if they ever want to find lasting happiness. If you'd like me to notify you when this book is ready for purchase, please message me here.
I'm also working on the final edits of my father's memoirs about growing up in Belfast, Northern Ireland before "the troubles" began. The working title is The Other Belfast and boy, will I be a happy man when that's done. It's thirty years in the making and 50+ chapters long. No library is going to be burning to the ground when my dad earns his wings. No way.
Alright, enough about my ass. Here are a few scenes and trailers from some of my favorite movies! But first, a tribute to comic genius and one of my hero's, Don Knotts! Woohoo!

My Interests

Writing, poetry, martial arts, health and fitness, hiking, surfing, guitar, world travel, exotica, retro tiki, atomic/50's nostalgia.

I'd like to meet:

Unapologetic conservatives, unapologetic patriots, Bush supporters, U.S. troop supporters, War on Terror supporters, writers, poets, artists, publishers, literary agents, martial artists, and anyone who is interested in personal growth and contributing something of value to the world and/or ridding the world of cancers like terrorism. If you think the U.S. is evil, Bush is akin to Hitler, or that terrorists are just misunderstood romantics, please don't add me. I don't want to know you.

GREECE!!!

Music:

Folk acoustic, Doo Wop, surf, The Rat Pack, rock-a-billy, anything prior to 1960, and any lyric-driven, intelligent songwriting/singing. Can't stand gangster rap or angry metal. There's enough naturally occurring darkness in life without making a career out of celebrating it.

Movies:

Cinema Paradiso (Italian), Il Postino, Tombstone (the best western of all time), Summer Lovers, A Christmas Story, Ong-Bak - The Thai Warrior (Tony Jaa), North By Northwest, Indiana Jones (any), Mediterraneo

Television:

Anything with class, which eliminates about 95% of all current television shows produced by the mostly liberal Hollywood, which has abandoned the values that made this country great. (Oops, did I say that?)

Books:

Zorba the Greek or anything by Nikos Kazantzaskis, John Steinbeck, Herman Hesse, Richard Bach, Paulo Coelho, Mark Twain.

Heroes:

Mom and Dad, my wife Claudia (the grandest and most compassionate soul I've ever encountered), Sara Dawn (one of the strongest people I know), John Walsh, Jimmy Stewart, Martin Luther King, Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, Ron Howard, Frank Capra, Bill Bixby, Sammy Davis, Jr., and anyone who manages to maintain moral integrity in the ugly, jaded, cynical, morally vacant hellhole America is rapidly becoming. And of course, every U.S. soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan.
