Written and directed by newcomer Lamont Carswell, a Florida State University senior, the series focuses on real issues facing young adults particularly those in college today.El Cee Productions, an independent film company, is producing the series. The company hosted a Meet the Filmmakers Investors' Party & Presentation Sunday, Nov. 19 as an opportunity for "My Brother's Keeper" to showcase its project to potential investors, donors and sponsors.According Carswell, the party and presentation were successful, yet the series is still looking to license to a network.According to Carswell, the series is about the experiences of two brothers, Darius and Dallas. Darius and his family live in a small town in Florida where he divides his time with his small auto detailing company, his girlfriend, Tori, and his slew of friends. After his father's sudden death from prostate cancer, Darius gets a life-altering surprise before his father's funeral: he has a half-brother named Dallas, who is his age. It seems that before his death, Darius's father wrote to Dallas, and informed him of his sickness. Confused and worried, Dallas arrives in Florida to find that his father has already passed away. He must now cope with his feelings for a father he never really knew and a brother he's not sure he even wants. For the bitter Darius, the feeling is mutual.
(cont'd)"My Brother's Keeper" examines the intertwining of relationships between a diverse group of friends, lovers, and brothers. With a main cast of fifteen diverse characters, issues such as familial relations, sexual health, poverty, sexism, racism, classicism, domestic violence, sexuality, political issues like the war in Iraq, and much more will be explored and addressed."I always wanted to do a TV drama series that focused on the lives of young people that aren't represented as much on television in this dramatic way," said Creswell. "You have urban sitcoms, but you don't have serious drama series that lets young adults tell their stories or what college students go through in our everyday lives."

(cont'd)During his sophomore year, Carswell completed a one-year internship through the FSU film school, and there he met Keisha Ansley and Demetrius Wren. According to Carswell, with their combined experience, it was perfect to pool their knowledge together."One of the things we love about our show is that we get to be very realistic," said Creswell. "Even though everything is narrative and fiction, we really are focused and committed to portraying realistic situations. The show is not only caricature but also very issue driven. It's very non-conventional and you recognize that."For more information about the series, e-mail Lamont Carswell, the writer, director, and producer at [email protected].
