hopskatch

Formed around 02' or was it 03'? Name created by al, the game piko or hopscotch, but there was a band with that name, so changed the o to an a. but there was a band hopskatch before also, disbanded i think. Formed by a bunch of guys who have been together already for a long time, hanging out, skating, drinking, playing music, etc. Started out covering some Op. Ivy songs and playing compos, at dave's tito's backyard, schools, bars and underground gigs. Some guys were then busy with work, a few changes in the lineup bringing in an anarcho bassist (dave) and a noise metal drummer (berlin), mark would fill in the drums sometimes. mark had a history of playing the trumpet, got back into it, taught bob, and there we go... two horns. Sounded a bit like ska/crust at this time, mostly played at underground gigs and a few bars. Some guys became busy again, so a few changes again bringing in old skul melvin and technical drummer james. The horns section were then trained by the horns section of Mobster Manila, making them play a little bit better. Played 2tone songs, skapunk and since the horns sections played in other bands, an influence of skinhead reggae and rocksteady were mixed into the music. Drummer knew a saxophone player, so richard the pilot was added and jayong playing the trumpet was also added, buffing up the horns section. dave had to go to davao so karlo from a defunct band Malaska, filled in for base. Started recording late 05' just 2 days of recording. somehow still not able to release the album....hmmm Hopskatch plays ska mixed with different types of variations, singing and shouting about pretty much... anything.
