Sweet Little Old Lady Who Wants YOU for a Friend

About Me

Myspace Layouts + Myspace Graphics My name is Beverly and I am a gypsy moth who loves to travel. I am from a small ranching commuity in South Texas and developed a yen for those 'far-away places with the strange-sounding names' while sitting on the seawall of Corpus Christi watching the ships come and go. Since that time, I have had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe, the Orient, Central and South America, and live in other lands. I have 4 children and 4 grandchildren, in addition to 3 illustrious husbands whom I loved, laughed with, fought with, and tried to kill with my bare hands. Now that I am widowed and in the twilight of my life, there are some things you promise yourself that you will do before you die. Mine were: (1) 'Round the Horn, (2) Go up the Amazon, (3) visit Lake Atitlan in Guatemala on the ground because it looked like something out of a fairy tale from the air, and (4) see Rome. So, last year I visited Lake Atitlan. And I celebrated my 62nd birthday by leaping on a schooner in Tierra del Fuego and sailing around Cape Horn (in a moaning gale with snow and sleet blowing sideways across heavy seas, but you couldn't have dragged me off the deck with 10 herds of wild horses). I loved the drama of it all--and the people I met along the way. Enough about me. Now there are YOU guys on My Space. And I would love to meet YOU too!

My Interests

I am writing a novel and plan to do travel writing and photography after I retire next year. My interests are broad. I have acted in little theatre productions, was a member of the Junior League, Symphony Society, and every other club that came down the pike. Being from Texas, I have been slung out of the saddle by cutting horses, won my share of poker games, can shoot straight, and have danced the Texas Two-Step and Cotton Eye'd Joe. But I have also danced the Cumbia wearing tropical white in the pale moonlight on an island where I lived. I love Baccarat and have played chess since I was 7 years old. I like to compose songs and music. I have flown aircraft, lived onboard a diving vessel, hacked my way through a 3-mat jungle with a machete, and designed and marketed clothing. I have a strong love for the sciences, but was born to the arts (sculpting, painting, music), and enjoy traveling and meeting people from every culture in the world. I love to experience new things, including international cuisine (I loved the food at Maxim's in Paris, but have dined on grub worms and monkey meat in the Darien Jungle, reindeer in Stockholm, horse meat in Mexico, mountain oysters and rattlesnake in Texas, shark fin soup in Hong Kong, and eel in Amsterdam, just to name a few).

I'd like to meet:

All of YOU guys. And I would also love to meet someone around my age to rock on the front porch with me in the twilight of our lives. I have had a rich life, but I look forward to my Golden Years because I feel the BEST is yet to come.

Music:

I like romantic songs by folks like Josh Groban, Il Divo, Barbara Streisand, and Julio Inglesias. I lean toward classical music and was born loving opera. Maria Callas is my favorite coloratura soprano. I love the Latin beat from Cuba and Brazil. Enjoy flamenco guitarists with smoldering eyes. Have recently discovered fabulous music from the Orient. But nothing is so stirring to me as a lone guitar in the night playing "The Streets of Laredo."

Movies:

"Gone With the Wind" is my all-time favorite. Last movie I saw was "Cars." I loved Tow-mater. Have enjoyed all of the "Harry Potter" movies. "Crazy from the Heart" with Christine Lahti{sp?} is another favorite.

Television:

"The Closer," "The Gilmore Girls," "Monk," "Ugly Betty," "NOVA," "Law & Order Criminal Intent," "CNN," and movies.

Books:

“Gone With the Wind.” “A Brief Moment in Time.” Anything by AMY TAN. Anything by J.K. Rowling—all of the “Harry Potter” series.

Heroes:

(1) Each and every American in the Middle East. (2) Red Adair, a pioneering oil well firefighter. (3) Ann Richardson, who, after being elected Governor of Texas, walked across the Congress Street Bridge, then walked up Congress Avenue leading 20,000 people to the Capitol steps to take back the government for the people of Texas. (4) Barbara Jordan, with the sonorous voice and great heart. (5) There are too many modern-day heros to list, but maintainly they are people who make a difference and do dangerous and often thankless jobs so our lives will be better.

Please Bring Me Up to Date!

Carpe Diem, indeed!  I wasted this day trying to figure out how to fill out this profile when the 12-year-old next door could have done it in 5 minutes.  But then, they had to drag me kickin...
