My Interests

Language. Geeky stuff. Art, literature and the life of the mind. Bored by cars, football and the absolute best route to take from A to B in all different circumstances (avoiding the roadworks on the A452) so am finding life as a 40-something bloke a little difficult, although being into computers helps. Annoyingly useless pieces of information. Crap jokes, especially puns. Sorry about the Pedants' Revolt one. If you want to know anything about planning your funeral or even buying a prepaid plan now and freezing the cost at today's prices (bargain!), I'm your man. I may get some commission, but you're still getting a good deal. LETS and Freecycle : good to get (and give) free stuff. Poetry

I'd like to meet:

Other pedants. Anyone who wants to buy something from Lighthouse Signs - Signs design when the site is complete. Sorry for the shameless plug, but every link helps. If you can help me make a cheese sauce without lumps, you get an extra tick in your box. A chat with John Hegley would be good, and I always harboured an idea I might bump in to John Peel one day and buy him a drink. Bill Clinton.

Music:

Leonard Cohen, Jah Wobble, David Byrne, Joni Mitchell, Black Eyed Peas, Scissor Sisters, Tom Waits, Joan Baez. Oh yes, and Cabaret Digitale (did I spell that right, Matt?).

Movies:

You mean films. Wings of Desire, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Betty Blue, Delicatessen, Man Bites Dog, Raging Bull, Amelie, Sideways, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Memento, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Jean de Florette/Manon des Sources, Cyrano de Bergerac (the Gerard Depardieu one), Pirates of the Caribbean, Being John Malkovich. A lot more French films than I thought there would be. Only ever walked out on one film, called Pink Narcissus. Ooh it was bad.

Television:

House, Green Wing, Strictly Come Dancing, New Tricks, CSI (all of them, but especially Vegas) and Dr Who. Still miss Twin Peaks. Most BBC comedy was better on Radio 4, especially Dead Ringers. Will set the video for Mark Steele's Comedy Lectures and occasionally get suckered into long-running shows where very little happens, like Prison Break. Very much the Radio 4 type.

Books:

Just about anything apart from the Collins sisters and Enid Blyton. Loved 'We Need to Talk About Kevin', but it was so creepy it put me off reading for a few days, and not much does that. Book I most enjoyed reading lately was 'The Lovely Bones'. If I had to pick one author it would be Hermann Hesse.

Heroes:

Roget, Doctor Johnson and Lynne Truss

Blind date

Don't worry - this isn't a re-run of Saturday nights over the last twenty years. There won't be a scintilla of Cilla in this. Apart from that bit.Anyway, I've been on two blind dates (adventurous, eh?...

Unhealthy obsession developing?

Myspace annoyances (again)

First it was random bands, then pulchritudinous scantily-clad young ladies, and now...invites to Myspace groups. Make money filling out surveys: acceptable (I have £10 in Argos vouchers from doing tha...

Hoff Stoff

More musings on the hairy-chested wonder. I was starting to warm to him. He wasn't drunk any more - anywhere - and with the Pipex adverts looked like he had developed a sense of self-mockery, which ap...

Plastered in Paris

Yet another place which has been named more than once, according to this jaunty little ditty. Well Paris was its usual good value, and driving there wasn't nearly as scary as I'd feared. And it didn't...

I've had this on my desk for five years. Anyone care to hazard a guess?

Don't tag me there - it's still sore from last time

Here's The Game: The first player of this game starts with the "6 weird things/habits about yourself" and people who get tagged need to write a blog or bulletin of their 6 weird habits/things, as well...

Another bright idea

How cool is this? You could not only have a little orange man flashing at you on screen, but, with a few modifications, a little model person doing the same thing on your desk....

Aaargh

All the power went off to our sockets on Friday night - the circuit breaker had tripped. "No problem," thought I - at least we don't have an old-style fuse box, so all I have to do is flick the switch...
