About Me

Myspace For Girls Only - MyGirlySpace.comHow do you write about yourself without sounding incredibly...full of yourself? If you know me then you know I'm fun and funny, opinionated, loyal, intelligent, full of useless facts and very good at solving problems (especially other peoples--my shoulder is in constant use). I like most everyone I meet but have very little tolerance for ignorance (and boy does it run rampant here in the ATL). One of the best conversations I have ever had was with a homeless woman down by the Georgia Dome. I sing in the shower (great acoustics), hate talking on the phone (would rather be face to face), I cry in movies (but hardly any other time), my favorite place to dance is in the rain and I am grumpy in the morning (though a good "cuddle" can change my mood faster than a grande coffee in a venti cup)...

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet people who aren't afraid to follow their dreams. I'd like to meet men and women who challenge my intellect and know how to have fun. I'd like to meet (just one person) who never judges a book by its cover. Baby Michael, Matty Mac, the person who writes the kleenex commercials that make me cry, my great grandmother, my Grandpa Van, Tim, Owen, Oprah, Hilary and the Queen are also people I'd like to meet. My mother would like me to meet someone. That's it.

Music:

I am musically schizophrenic. What I listen to changes with my moods. I LOVE our local music scene and nothing helps me decompress better than a cold beer and some live music. Check out Novah (my favorite!), Tim Brantley and the 10th Street Boys, Dead Confederate, Sun Domingo, the Bridges, South 70, Sonia Leigh, Plain Jane Automobile, Modern Skirts, All the Saints, John Pringle, the Booze...all really good and all bound for HUGE success!!!

Movies:

Favorite of all time? The Wizard of Oz--I still get the creeps from those flying monkeys and there is a hell of a lot of truth to the whole "There's no place like home" thing...

Television:

ABC's Thursday night line-up (thank God for my DVR!), all the typical chic fare (I'm a walking cliche'). I'm something of a night owl so it's David then Conan, college football (Go Blue!) and hockey...

Books:

I read all the time--all genres. Sometimes I like to learn and sometimes I like to be entertained. Ask me what I'm reading...

Heroes:

My mom and dad--still married and in love after 39 years together. We should all be so lucky.

My Blog

Want a good laugh?

Last Friday night we celebrated my girlfriend Josie's birthday with a night of drinking and roller skating (see my "Fun on the Furbus" pics) and general "girls gone wild" behavior.  We began the ...

Grief has no expiration date

Last Friday was my last day as nanny to the little monkeys I have cared for, loved and basically raised for the past six years. These two little girls have had such a profound effect on my life and I ...

Thank you--I'm so flattered!

First, I need to say I am so incredibly flattered by all the really sweet emails regarding my "you asked for it" blog...I truly had no idea so many people read these things (especially people I don't ...

You asked for it

While in high school I was an editor on our newspaper and did quite a bit of writing...silly rhymes, short stories and, obviously, articles for the paper. Recently, I was asked by a friend from high s...

These are stinky times.

It's been a while since I climbed on my "soap box" and vented but I really feel the need (or perhaps it's PMS and I'm out of chocolate so I write...) While out in our lovely city this weekend I found ...

The art of letting go

I have a question: when do you know it is time to "let go" and how do you know you aren't simply "giving up"? You see, there are so many different thoughts out there on how things happen in life. Ther...

Mixed signals

When we were in elementary school it was easy to tell when a boy liked you. He'd pull your hair or tease you on the playground or drop a worm down the back of your shirt (true story--it actually ...

We (a couple of girlfriends of mine--and yes, Paul, I am fortunate to have lots of friends) went to a fabulous little place called JCT Kitchen tonight. It used to be known as "Commune" (behind Bacchan...
