About Me

I like to think of myself as a juggernaut of pure amazement mixed in with a snifter of apple-flavoured laziness. Whatever that means. I find if I'm confusing enough, no one bothers to ask questions... Anyway, I'm currently getting my masters in electrical engineering at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. I also like reading, listening to music, and watching squirrels fight each other. As long as there isn't a death match involved. That just makes me feel sorry for whoever has to clean it up.

My Interests

Reading books, playing guitar, cooking, sleeping, and seeing how many spoonfuls of peanut butter I can fit into my mouth.

I'd like to meet:

A talking zebra. (Disney has raised my expectations of animals to an unrealistic level.)

Music:

Ben Folds, Bloc Party, Death Cab for Cutie, Sufjan Stevens, and others.

Movies:

Fight club, Good will hunting, Rounders, UHF, Super Troopers, others.

Television:

Corner gas, the office, the daily show, my name is earl, futurama, house.

Books:

Let's go authors: Kurt Vonnegut, Paul Auster, Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Michael Crichton, Christopher Buckley, etc.

Heroes:

That japonese guy who can eat 50 hot dogs in a minute. Now that's a party trick!

My Blog

Back in Canada

After being on trains, planes, and busses for over 60 hours I finally made it back to Vancouver.  Overall I think the trip was a great success.  I made it back with no stab wounds and so far...

Why is my face burning?

The return trip to Athens was fairly uneventful, but when I got to the centre of the city the first thing I saw were a bunch of riot police.  And then I saw a riot, which made a lot of sense.&nbs...

Plovdiv

Plovdiv is one of the major tourist cities in Bulgaria, and due to time constraints it's the only one I'm able to see.  Bulgaria is definitely the most confusing country I've been to due to the l...

Where's my Wallet?

Got an overnight train from Bucharest to Sofia, and to save money I decided to go with a seating car instead of a sleeper.  As I later learned, the main advantage of a sleeper is that the door lo...

Brasov

Brasov is an amazing town in the heart of Transylvania.  It's got around 300 000 people, but that great small town feel.  Went to a citadel where Vlad the Impaler lived for a year and then t...

Lake Snagov

Got to Bucharest last night and it was a little tough finding a hostel because I forgot to write down the phone number of the one I wanted to stay at.  But I finally made it and even got me a bed...

Turkish Baths

On my last day in Istanbul I decided to try a turkish bath before my 20 hour train ride.  It was surpisingly great.  Starts off with a sauna, and then you go out and an old man throws water ...

Istanbul

Out of all the places I've visited, Istanbul is the coolest yet.  Which means this summary will leave out more information than all the other ones because there were so many cool things to see.&n...

Athens

Athens is hot.  How hot?  Imagine throwing a dog in heat into a volcano, and that's around the temperature in Athens.  Speaking of dogs, the heat makes them incredibly lazy.  All t...

The Island of Kos

I actually just arrived in Athens tonight, but this was the first time I've had internet access for a while.  Kos was a lot of fun.  I was there for a conference, but since that will probabl...
