About Me

..This profile was edited with Thomas' myspace editor™ V2.5 I was born in Santa Rosa California at a time when I was searching for my identity and in need of affirmation. I found it very difficult to assert myself for several years, and then found that when I could it often yielded very different results that I would have anticipated, had I had the capacity to anticipate results. Once I gained this capacity, I was able to write the previous sentence. It has been all uphill from there!I have toiled in the high tech industry for decades and suddenly stopped. I have jacked the whole world in and climbed in a VW bus with my buddy Dutch and traveled around for two years trying to find something to find; I have been married to a woman for 14 years who understands my needs and individuality and fosters both; I have an uncanny instinct for knowing the right decision; I have an even more uncanny instinct for not making that decision; I have personaly expanded the meaning of the phrase "playing the guitar" so that it includes me; I have written songs that others have told me are better than average (Roger and Tom are included in this group); I have written songs that are perfectly dreadful; I am willing to help; I am very hesitant to ask for help; I am intent on experiencing everything that happens to me; I understand that the only things I can control are my actions and reactions. I am an agnostic; I believe the sun will die in 5 billion years and not a single cosmic tear will be shed; I believe I could wrong about just about everthing; I believe I could be right about that; I think everthing is either taken to seriously or not seriously enough; I think that very little, outside the moment, really matters; I try to stay out of the way; I am extremely opinionated but don't care at all about convincing anyone of anything (except you, whom I desperately need to convince that I don't care about convincing anyone of anything); I contadict myself; I am vast; I contatin multitudes; I am more accountable than most (I originally wrote "I am accountable" and then changed it to illustrate just how accountable I am); I write parenthetically (really); I have no idea what's really going on; I am comfortable with that last statement; I endeavor to increase my tolerance and capacity to love; I believe magic is an illusion; I think the fact that pizza is even possible is utterly amazing; I think I'll stop now!

My Interests

Engaging with, and experiencing every event in my life. I love backpacking/mountaineering, hiking, meaningful interaction with others, playing the guitar/songwriting, pinball, the desert, the ocean, listening to music, talking with, or helping, friends. Waking up everyday!

I'd like to meet:

Myspace Layouts

Music:

Depends on my mood

Movies:

Yes! Good stuff! I like escapism and nothing says escapism like movies (except pinball)!

Television:

7, yes SEVEN! 6 is not enough and 8 is way too many - so I have 7.

Books:

I don't know how people find time to read books when it is so easy to own 7 televisions! I have read books, but who really cares which ones! I don't even care which ones I've read anymore. I would hate for anyone to draw any conclusions about me based on a list of books I remember and feel like listing here so that it "presents just the right image"! It's like an invitation to spread books out on the coffee table to impress company....and I won't do it! Go ahead and wonder which books I've read - I don't! Alright I've decided to list my two current favorites "Hyperspace" by Michio Kaku and "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Green. These books separated time into "before and after" for me! Almost anything by Vonnegut or Tom Robbins, Harlan Ellison is also one of my favorites - I have called and spoken to him on the phone - twice!

Heroes:

People who hold doors for others! Considerate people! Selfless, caring, giving people who genuinely exercises their selfishness through helping others! EMTs! Bill Hicks! George Carlin! Anyone who can convey an aspect of the human condition in such a way that either makes me laugh or cry! Anyone who has ever risked their own life to save an animal! The guy who decided it wasn't enough to be able to make ice cream portable by putting in an edible cone, and that it needed a hard chocolate coating on the outside as well. Whoever first thought to make pecan pie! Greasy, dirty, smoking mechanics in small, out of state, towns that say very little, but when they do open their mouths - speak volumes, and who quickly figure out that your interconnect to your alternator was corroded and just needed to be cleaned and only charge you $20. The mothers of those mechanics (good job ladies!)! Everyone I rely on!

Just a Little Pin Prick

Have you ever noticed the great disparity in the achievement of pleasure and pain?  It amazes me that you can induce and cause pain very easily and readily.  For example, if you prick yourse...

Nothing Ever Happens Differently (Part IV of a III part series)

I used to scoff at people who referred to problems as "opportunities".  "Oh Please" I thought, "lets not put a dress on the pig and call it a prom date".  How little I understood about persp...

I'm sure some of you are aware of the Iraqi comedian who was killed, I'm sure fewer of you new his name was Walid Hassan, I'm sure even fewer of you had even conceptualized a comedian from Iraq. ...

I Heard God Praying for Ignorance

Does god have opinions?  It would seem as though this would be impossibility for the creator of all things.  I am a humble human agnostic.  I am ultimately quite alone in this universe ...
